Scala Classico Men's Crushable Wool Felt Fedora

Really love this hat--especially at this price point. It was this or the Hats in the Belfry version--also a nice hat, and which I ordered first--but the finish on this hat is just a tad better. The stitches that tack the grosgrain ribbon in place on the Belfry model were frayed and ruined the overall look. This Scala Classico model has clean, neat stitches, and that really makes a difference. I first ran into this model of the Scala fedora this fall in a period show that I did (MEMPHIS), and one of my cast mates had this exact hat--same size and color. I knew I wanted a fedora just like it, or another brand as good. Turns out--at least in this instance--that for this type of fedora, the Scala is just the fit. Speaking of fit, the Scala XL, which fits my huge melon of a head, is just right. The Hats in the Belfry model is just a little large--but that wasn't my problem with the hat. A hat spacer, and you're good to go. And before anyone thinks this is a screed against the Hats in the Belfry brand, I'm still looking to buy a trilby model, and the Belfry version looks very nice for that. For a more reserved but definite fedora, I really like this Scala hat. The brim is not too wide nor the crown too tall. It has a great 50s and 60s vibe. If I wanted a more flamboyant model, I'd go with the Belfry Gangster model, but I was looking for more 60s, less 30s. No defense for taste.

Excellent hat, great quality and craftsmanship

Over the years I have returned multiple Scala hats due to poor quality or weird fit, but this hat came out of the box in good condition, good quality, and looks great. The XL is a little too big for my head, but if I go smaller, it will be too small and be uncomfortable to wear so I padded the sweatband a little and its doable. I would rather have it be too big rather than too small (that's what she said eh hem). I went ahead and purchased another color based on the looks, condition, and feel of this hat. Second hat: This hat came to me in a clear plastic bag. No box and nothing else to protect the hat. It was also shipped during the peak of the Christmas season and surprisingly the hat arrived in perfect condition. It was not crushed, folded, creased, wrinkled, or mis-shapened in any way. The hat was literally in perfect condition with a perfect shape. I don't know how that is even possible traveling so many miles, in so many different airplanes and trucks with nothing more than a plastic bag to protect it. The grey color is also perfect. Not too light and not too dark. I'm glad I purchased a second hat.

Excellent all- use fedora. Comfortable and has a nice shape. Brim doesn’t seem to snap but the overall look is so nice I’m not worried about it. Photos don’t do it justice- this hat is a truly stunning chocolate brown with subtle red highlights. It is fantastic, well worth the money.

Great fit; easy to pack and travel with

I was looking to upgrade my headgear with a classic fedora, and searched all over. Some were too fancy, some were too "cowboy" (not that there's anything wrong with a cowboy hat, but it's not my style). This one looked perfect. The price seemed right, too. I didn't want a cheap hat, but I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars, either. I'm very pleased with it. It looks and fits great, it's comfortable and well made. I think this is a hat I'll wear for years to come, and always look good in it. And it came in a box, so I didn't get something that had been squished under other packages. Five stars!

Love this hat. I found the brim to be the size I was looking for. I haven't tried crushing it yet... and hopefully never have to. It is a nice option to wear when the weather is a bit colder, and I don't want to wear a knit watch cap, ruining my hair. I found with a different higher end straw panama hat I bought last summer I'm a 60 CM hat size. This is a tad bigger than that 60 CM hat. I used the little bit of foam fitment material, and it's perfect. I really enjoy wearing this hat.

I was searching for my first fedora and ran across this hat. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a first hat as I am trying to determine what I like. (There are no stores within a reasonable range to actually try on hats.) Overall, the quality is OK for the price. It is not the highest quality that I would ultimately want in a fedora, but it is acceptable. The weight seems to be sort of a medium range. I like that it is not too light. While the felt is soft, it does seem to hold its shape well. I am not necessarily interested in a crushable hat, and I have not tried crushing it. It also has a finished edge on the brim which I like. The size (large) seems to be about right. I am right on the line between large and extra-large. Typically a large fits OK as it does with this hat. The hat does ride a bit high on the head, and my head touches the inside top of the hat. Also, the headband was poorly sewn on at one point creating a fold in the headband. I removed the single stitch and will place a drop of glue within the band. As others have mentioned, the Scala logo is on the headband. I could do without that. I have not yet tired to remove it. Finally, the packaging left a bit to be desired. The hat was a bit mis-shaped, but not badly, and it recovered well. While I will keep the hat, I have learned what I would prefer in my next hat. 1) The weight is fine; a bit heavier would also be OK. 2) This hat has no lining; I would prefer a lining. 3) I am OK with a stiff hat; one just a bit stiffer than this one would be fine with me. I do not need a crushable hat. 4) This hat has a 2 1/2” brim. I believe I would prefer a little wider brim at 2 3/4”. 5) I like the finished edge on the brim. 6) I believe the 4” height is a bit small for me and 4 1/4” or 4 1/2” might fit better. I would rate this at 3.5 stars if I could. Because of the minor issues, I cannot give it 4 stars. It is a very acceptable 3 stars.

At this price it’s a very good buy! I get a lot of compliments for this hat. It fits good and the material is pretty good so go for it buy one it will be a great addition to your collection.

It is a nice hat. A tiny bit more snug than another Scala hat I have, but it is a heavier fabric, so that may be why. A bit floppier than my raffia or linen hats, and brim is wider than I expected. Totally crushable/packable, which will be great. Shipped with a protective band around the headband, which was a nice touch.
