check fan; bulb may be ok
This is not a review of the bulb , but advice on fixing the reason for power light blinking red even after bulb replacement. my 2005 sxrd kept blinking red even after the bulb was replaced. on further research i found the fan could be the problem.fairly easy fix: all you need is long philips screwdriver & lots of room to access the back of the tvalso please unplug the tv before doing any thing.remove the bulb cover. if you tv is on the standard sony stand nudge it around a bit so that when you unscrew the back side, the cover is not obstructed & comes out easily.if you look at the back side there are 2 fans . the one on the left the 120mm (approx 4 in) just next to the bulb cavity,(its less visible when the cover is on as it is covered by a silver plate) might have a starting problem.unscrew the silver plate.plug in the tv.while while somebody is working the remote in the front to start the tv . check if the fan starts on its own.if it doesn't, nudge it or just use a blower. give it a couple of trys. (unplug/plug/use remote to start, nudge fan) if the tv starts & remains on when the fan is rotating after you nudge it. its time to replace the fandisconnecting & connecting the fan is very easy.take a note on how the old fan is placed & connected. model number/ dimensions.take a picture, usually 12v dc brushless 120mm fan here is the amazon link to it Sony MOTOR, DC FAN SFF21C-C-NP its 20$ + shipping -bit pricey -cheaper versions are available but might not have the connectors & may not be 3 wire. so if you are not well versed with what im talking about, just order the abovei wish i had known before this i would have not bought this bulbgood luck.

Well worth the money
The shipping was super fast. Really easy to install. I dont think it was as bright as the last lamp I had, BUT, it does work well, picture is good. It saved my Sony projection TV from the trash heap. Very well priced. Easy to replace the burned out bulb - just pulled it out, pushed in the new one.

Worked perfectly!
We were about to watch a bunch of Christmas family movies with our children when POP. Our lamp broke for the 2nd time in our Sony TV (first time was years ago). We have an Amazon Prime account (which is SOOOOO worth it and has saved us more than 5 times now) so we decided to go to Amazon to purchase a new lamp to have it in two days.It arrived perfectly packaged and on time, which we always get with Amazon products. Installed it and works perfectly. We have had it for 3 or 4 days now and have watched well over 24 hours of television with it installed with no problems. We went back to watching our family Christmas movies with only a 2 day wait-- can't beat that! ~Merry Christmas all and Happy New Year

Good bulb, BUT only lasted 6 months.
Update:Flickered when first installed, and every couple of months afterwards, then finally died after 6 months. They typically last several years - that was my third (fourth if you count the one Sony put in the month I got it) since 2005 so roughly every 3 years they burn out.---Took under a minute to swap out and worked great. After a week the screen started to twinkle, and I tapped it a couple of time (like back in the day) and it cleared up. Its been a few days and is still working well. This is the third bulb since 2006 - I am actually very pleased that the TV holds up that well. The first one was changed about a month after it arrived by UPS. The second was about 3 or 4 years later, so I am hoping this one lasts another 3 or 4 years.I am so glad the Youtube videos show how to fix this TV - it saved me thousands for a new TV over the years.

Lamp keeps shattering after short time
First lamp sent to me went out after only a couple of days. Had them send me a replacement. When I was replacing the lamp, I noticed that the bulb actually had actually shattered. I've had the 2nd lamp in for 17 days, and while watching tv, heard the lamp pop and the tv went out. Shattered again. I have just sent in for another replacement. Starting to think the other comments I've read is true, not to buy the generic, but spring for the original, name brand. *sigh* Giving it one last chance.

So far so good, tv is on and color looking normal
2 weeks in and so far so good. I'm worried because others have commented on these things dieing & the bulb only comes with a 150 day warranty. Hopefully I get at least a year and a half before it breaks down on me.As for color quality, things look pretty good. I didn't know any thing out of wack.Tip: When I removed my old bulb i took a vacuum hose with a soft brush and sucked up dust that was inside the bulb chamber, I got into the habit when I ran into a problem a few years back when I thought my new bulb was a dud.

Doesn't last long
Lasted less than three months and we really don't use the TV a lot. The bulb still works but what happens is the reflecting material on the parabolic reflector flakes up and comes off from the heat so the light intensity goes way down and you can barely see the screen. There's nothing wrong with the cooling fan, no dust build up to reduce cooling capacity, nothing like that. It's just a cheaply made bulb.

Too dim to be useful!
This bulb was dim when we first installed it, two months later it is unwatchable during the daytime. What is worse, there is no support! I reached out to the vendor two time and never heard back, I will try to return it…
