Great book
I didn't personally read it, but my fiancé is a war/zombie fanatic so I bought it for him. He actually hates reading, but he read this book in 3 days. :)

A copy, but done very well.
Anyone that has been in the Army will recognize this book is just a copy of any basic skill books such as troop leading and PVT-SPC skill sets. But it's amusing that the author incorporated zombies into everything. If you've not been in the military then this book I highly recommend because if you take the zombies out of each article you have practical life saving knowledge and basic survival/combat training. Fun to read and I have to be honest, easier to dive into that any military book of the like I've had to read.

Seems like it is missing something
If you ever read Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide, then you would have the basic idea of what this book is about. The book is written on the grounds that you are a US Army solider. In the beginning you swear an oath that you will do what you have to do.The book is divided up into many sections. Mostly related on the grounds of first aid, survival, weapon training, evasion, defense, offense, and so on.I could see many potential of this book, but I think it somehow fails to deliver. The reason I think it fails to deliver is because the book attempts to explain real life training, but push in "zombie" stuff. For example, in the weapons section of the book, it explains about the M9, M4, M16, etc. It goes on to explain the fire rate, the capacity, and so on. Then to make it "zombie" it just paints a picture of a zombie on it. In other sections it explains about camouflage, but to add that "zombie" effect, it just says, "Be sure to stay hidden from zombies." There is one section about target practice, and it shows a score card, but to make it a "zombie," the author just painted zombies all over the card. Then in First Aid sections, it explains about how to carry people, and so on, but to add that "zombie" feeling, the diagrams just show soldiers with "Brainz" written on their helmets or they show diagrams of proper first aid, but put an obvious zombie bite to simulate injuries. I mean it's sort of like taking a Dodge, then putting a Ford sticker on it, then talking about how great Dodges are. I felt the author picked up a copy of an actual US Army manual, then to turn it into a zombie knock off, the author just added in some pictures of zombies, add some stuff about zombies between the paragraphs, then shipped it out. The zombie theme of the book felt more forced than just funny.

This would be the reason our Army would fail in a Z-world
Too much reliance on guns and missles, foxhole techniques, no hand-to-hand combat info. This book seems that it wasn't so much written with zombies in mind, but just kinda added into an already exisiting Army manual. There are also several points in the book that seem to describe traits of vampires. Page 20 - (Opening air pathway life saving technique info) - "Keep a close eye on the casualty's incisors." Page 62 - (Mental health and morale, Rest section) - "Just as your Undead enemy returns each morning to their graves to recharge, you too must rest." WHAA??While this info would be great to fight living adversaries, cornering yourself in a hole and shooting a gun would not be good while surrounded by zombies. Nor would learning how to fill out a missle range chart help you defend against a horde that would just keep coming even if most of their bodies are blown to bits. Take this manual as one of those guides that may be useful with unlimited bullets to fight off other survivors, but not zombies.

Narrow Appeal
I have awarded two-stars to this volume not on the basis that it is a badly written or poorly researched book, on the contrary, it is well-laid out & obviously done with expert knowledge. My big problem is the very narrow appeal of this book. It really is what is says - a military guide - but one so detailed & technical that I fear it will be of little interest to the casual reader. To be fair, the authors to highlight that it is a `combat guide' & although I will be using it for my research, I suspect few others will.I will add that it does at least add to our library of knowledge on fighting ghouls so that cannot be a bad thing. However, if you are anything approaching a `general reader' go for something else - this is a like technical textbook...
