## Description

Product Description Makita’s 7-Inch Angle Grinder (model GA7031Y) combines 15 AMP power with ease-of-use and motor protection features for longer-lasting performance in inFilthrial and commercial environments. 15 AMP Motor Delivers 8, 500 RPMThe GA7031Y is powered by a 15 AMP motor that delivers 8, 500 RPM for faster stock removal. The labyrinth construction minimizes Filth and debris penetration into the motor and bearings for longer tool life. In addition, the armature is sealed by a protective zig-zag varnish which averts impurity by creating a barrier under rotation, and wire mesh intake covers are engineered to avert metal shards from entering the motor. The armature is supported by dual ball bearings and reinforced with a nylon retainer for improved durability. The GA7031Y weighs only 13. 5 lbs. and is built with comfort and ergonomic features for extended use. The grinder features an ergonomic rubberized handle engineered for lower vibration and can be installed on either side of the tool. The push-button rotatable rear handle has positive stops and can be positioned every 90 degrees for operator convenience. Additional convenience features include a “tool-less” wheel cover for easy guard adjustment, and externally accessible brushes for easy serviceability. The GA7031Y is a versatile and powerful grinder engineered for demanding applications and is ideal for masons, welders, ship yard workers, automotive technicians, stone/tile work, HVAC, electricians, and general contractors for a range of inFilthrial grinding applications. From the Manufacturer Powerful 15.0 AMP motor delivers 8,500 RPM for faster material removal. Rotatable rear handle rotates with just the push of a button, with positive stops every 90 degrees, to suit most cutting and grinding operations. Wire mesh intake covers are engineered to prevent metal shards from entering motor especially when used in close proximity to other grinders.

Review: Just so powerful - Outperforming other angle grinders, the GA7031Y has been a stellar addition to my toolkit. The 15.0 AMP motor, boasting 8,500 RPM, ensures rapid material removal without a hint of power issues. I just finished leveling out a 100 sq ft room, which I started out by using a 4 in grinder. After about 20 minutes the motor burned out. Ugh!. The GA7031Y finished the job in a 10th of the time, around 2 hours of constant use. It barely got warm. The spiral bevel gears contribute to smoother rotations, enhancing the overall efficiency of energy transfer. The labyrinth construction is a standout feature, preventing debris from compromising the motor, bearings, and gears, thereby extending the tool's lifespan. The "tool-less" wheel cover is a game-changer, allowing effortless guard adjustment for multiple grinding and cutting angles without the need for additional tools. In conclusion, the MAKITA GA7031Y proves to be a worthwhile investment, delivering exceptional performance and durability for the money spent.
Review: very satisfied, works as a cheap floor sander, or power-planer, many other uses - I haven't owned any other 7" grinders, so I can't compare it to other brands / models, and I haven't owned it for very long so I can't attest to it's durability, but what i can say is: I bought this as a supplemental tool. I am not a metal smith, but a carpenter, working mostly with wood, though i do occaisional welding work, and i have a 4 1/2" grinder also. Still i have found many uses for this tool, most notably, sanding floors. If you think about it, a disc type floor sander is essentially this tool for 10 times the price. With some SKILL, a 7" grinder can be used for small floor sanding jobs but you have to be very careful. Still, there are a lot of wood working applications where I need to take off a ton of material (like planing down old rough-sawn wood for finish work), a task which will destroy a power-planer if there are any nails in the wood - but not so with a grinder and a heavy-grit sanding disk - it just burns right through the nails, takes off as much material. After that i have to hit it with an orbital sander to get a nice finish. In addition, the swivel handle feature is great, because you can flip it so the blade is oriented vertically with the handle coming off the side, and use it kind of like a chain-saw, for things like cutting rebar or gnawing off bolt ends. It is REALLY POWERFUL, and also REALLY HEAVY. I don't actually like using it for wire-wheeling on welds or things like that because the weight will wear out your arms out. For that sort of thing i always reach for my 4 1/2" grinder. Another thing i like about it is the mounting bolt is the same size as my 4 1/2" grinder (5/8" i think), so blades are interchangeable, and without the guard you can use smaller blades easily.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Es made in China**
A: Assembled in the USA is the only information given.

**Q: Can a 9 inch grinding wheel be used on this tool?**
A: The 7” model is identical to the 9” model. GA7031Y vs GA9031Y (aside from the 9” guard). It is essentially a 7-9” tool. Same driver / arbor, different wheel guards. If you purchase the 9” guard, you now have 2 more inches. NEVER operate this tool without the guard. NEVER.
The tool manuals supplied are the same documents. See the Makita website for part numbers.

**Q: Is this variable speed?**
A: No this is not variable speed.

**Q: Where is the ac/dc switch for use with alternative power source located on this tool?**
A: This angle grinder from Makita GA7031Y is AC/DC as denoted by the Alternating or Direct Current Symbol on its label. The switch is automatic, you don't have an actual "switch" to slide, flip or press.
Simply plug it in and it should work fine. I run mine on my welding machine (AC) and my older machine (DC). No issues so far.
As for the location, the AC/DC switch is the switch that turns the grinder on and off.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Like it but real heavy.
*by M***K on April 20, 2017*

I like the angle grinder, it has plenty of power and has nice quality. I bought the grinder that the handle can rotate which added about 5 pounds to the weight of the grinder. I wish I would have bought the one that doesn't have a rotatable handle just do to the weight.
