Wall Mounted Mini Basketball Hoop - Mini Pro 1.0

I thought it might be a bit expensive until it arrived for a Christmas present. Its like a real rim and backboard you'd put in your driveway. My son and I have gone through several over the door rims. I seriously think my 10 year old at 90 lbs could hand on this rim, but I did tell him not to just to be safe. I also love we can put it on a wall which gives us more space than a door. Its a great product and I'm well beyond thinking this was a good investment.

This small backboard is tough as nails and just like a real full size backboard but shrunk way down. Son loves it. But, if you do not have high ceilings, your ability to take long shots will be limited unless you keep it down pretty low. The ball that comes with it is not a soft rubbery or nerf ball, it is heavy weight rubber like a real ball. So, if you are worried about a ball flying around and breaking something, get some other light weight rubber or nerf ones to use. Overall, a great product.

I bought this for my 8th grader to put in his bedroom and it is awesome. Very solid construction and not hard to install. He dunks on it every day (he's had it 5 months) and it is showing zero wear and tear. I really think he'll have this thing in his college apartment many years from now. I was hesitant to spend the money but glad I did.

So first off, if you're looking at this product you have to be comfortable with the price point. If you already invested $ in a Gorilla hoop for the driveway ... then you are going to LOVE this indoor hoop (not cheap ... but less than 10% of what you've already invested outside). If you have a $300 hoop in the drive, then probably hard to justify this spend (no matter how cool it is). So Pro's & Con's ... Hoop is soild in its construction, and just a brilliant reproduction of what you'd expect from a nice Glass backboard in a gym, etc. Just beats the heck out of any over the door hoop I grew up with. Price could certainly be a drawback for some. And I just have a couple nitpick items ... the breakaway rim is not actually spring loaded like a full-size hoop. It hinges in the same way, but uses a plastic sleeve or spacer to allow the rim to flex. Just wish it truly broke away with a spring (but my kids are only 8 & 5 ... and I've already told them not to hang on it). The supports for the small hoop are certainly sturdy ... and more than adequate. I think it will take time before I see any issues with the drywall. That said, as some have already done in other reviews, it would make sense to have a wider support structure behind the rim? That would allow the hoop to have more flex left and right without concern that you'll damage the wall. Again my kids are young, so not an issue for me now. But as they get older and dunking gets more aggressive, I'm guessing that additional support may be warranted. I certainly don't mean to harp on the negative, just wanted to provide an honest review. All said, I absolutely LOVE this hoop!! And outside of a big TV, it's probably the coolest things I've added to the house. Kids Love it ... and so do I :) PS. We never even pretended to use the BBall that came with it (it's a legitimate miniature RUBBER basketball). Way too heavy in my book for inside ... the coated foam BBalls from Skilz are the same size and work great!

I went through several $30 mini hoops, with a growing ten year old reeking havoc like Chocolate Thunder! This thing has stood up to his abuse. My 50 pound five year old was even hanging on the rim and did no damage (note we did not encourage that and have ended his practice of hoop swinging). This is a lot of fun and worth the additional cost. DECEMBER 12 update: have had to tighten the wall bolts a couple times, but the hoop continues to laugh at the abuse...even with no great success keeping the 50 pound now 6 year old rim hanger from hanging! Have been through 3 basketballs, but the backboard, rim and net are in good shape. My only point of improvement would be to suggest lateral support arms in the mid portion of the board. The lag bolts end up being the fulcrum, and this over time results in the lags loosening from the wall and also allows some back and forth movement, which I suspect will eventually lead to me needing to move the hoop up several inches to make new holes. It has also resulted in drywall damage. This thing, though, is easily worth the "extra", which really isn't extra if your a softy like me and love watching your boys go to town a mini hoop like LeBron. No doubt I would have gone through 4 cheaper hoops by this point. JANUARY 20, 2014: finally had to take some action concerning previous complaint of loosening. I rigged metal plates that I got from a Pottery Barn bed (repurposing rocks) behind the included welded on brackets and it has performed much better and much, much more quietly since. This type of design would be a great addition for the maker to consider. See my video review.

This item is the real deal. Solid, well packaged, and very fast shipping. Yes, it costs more than some other brands. But unless you completely mistreat it, or do not follow rim hanging warnings, it will be around for a long time. I will say, the instructions included could be a bit confusing, but most of it was common sense. FYI - the instructions say a 7/16" socket wrench is needed. Mine actually required 3/8" socket, the 7/16" did not fit - so keep that in mind. There is a part during installation of the rim that mentions adding screws and says "do not tighten"....But never goes back and says to tighten the screws. It also mentions a screwdriver is needed to adjust the rim, but never describes how/when/why to do that. The rim is level and secure, so I don't think there is a need for me to adjust. Again, mostly common sense stuff. I installed this myself. Not the easiest thing to do, since you're using a socket wrench to secure to the wall, it can be a little awkward to hold in place and tighten. Two people would definitely make it easier. But did it with no issues. Spend a little more and get this one, you will not be disappointed. ***EDIT*** July 1, 2013 - A small update to my review. The backboard/rim is still great. But the ball that comes with the item is pretty much unuseable now. It wasn't great to begin with, not exactly round - but I didn't buy this item for the ball so no big deal. But with gentle, light use the ball is now shaped something like an egg. Can't dribble it, starts flying in weird directions. Again, occasional use on smooth concrete indoors, so it wasn't mistreated. The goal is still perfect, just keep in mind you will be shopping for a new ball soon. Dropped to 4 stars for this. I haven't found the right size anywhere yet.

This is a really great, quality basketball hoop. I was SO EXCITED to give it to my son for his 11th birthday. I had been researching indoor goals for months and had decided on this one. However, it MUST be mounted into a stud. My brother-in-law is a handy guy and came over to mount this for us and did not mount into a stud. It lasted about three days before it ripped out of the wall leaving huge holes in its wake. So just note that this is HEAVY but great quality. I couldn't be happier with it. We will find a good solid stud and mount it again. :)

Sometimes a mark of a good customer service is in how the company deals with a failed transaction, such as an undelivered goods. Case in point, I ordered this item Wall Mounted Mini Basketball Hoop from JustInTyme Sports. It's supposed to have been delivered and signed by a particular person in our office building. But I never got it and it was nowhere to be found. I called the JustInTyme Sports and spoke with Justin and informed him of the issue. I offered to simply order another one, and return the original shipment once located. But Justin offered to send me another one free of charge, and was willing to 2nd-Day-Air it, in time for my kids to play during the weekend. Now remember, the item was actually signed and received, so Justin was not obligated to replace it. But another issue came up. I asked for the second shipment to be sent to my home address instead. But as it happened, it was sent to a wrong unit number in my building. I received a call from Justin informing me of such. Since the UPS truck cannot come back to re-deliver, Justin arranged for me to pick it up at the nearest UPS branch. It was inconvenient for me to do so, so Justin offered to refund me half of the cost. I accepted and thought it was generous of him. Now that's customer service! Long story short, I got the hoops set in time for my kids visit. And we are very much enjoying it. It is sturdy, looks great, feels like the real thing (only difference is size) and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. This provides us hours and hours of fun, not to mention exercise and bonding with the kids. Thanks Justin for this great product and making sure I received it on time.
