Extremely helpful after foot surgery!
I have been using this leg rest for just over 4 weeks now, after having bunion surgery on one of my feet. I would say for the first two weeks, I used it day and night, for the most part. At this point, I still use it at times during the day when my foot swells... and am still using it at night. Surgery is unpleasant enough, without having to fight with a 'pillow pile' day and night, for weeks on end. I am a 5'6" female and while in bed, use this the way it is shown in the photo and the fit seems just fine. Now that I'm up and around more, I use it sideways on my recliner (leg rest on top of the foot portion of the recliner), and outside on the deck (leg rest on top of an ottoman).A couple of other things...As has been mentioned (I think), if you are using this at night while sleeping, it will be difficult to use under the covers.... if you have had surgery (or an injury), it is impossible, as the covers will pull down on your foot. I knew this would be an issue, and have just been sleeping on top of my quilt, with a light-weight blanket that I can arrange so my foot is sticking out. Some have asked about side sleeping with this leg rest. During the first two weeks after my foot surgery, I would say no way... LOL I was too nervous about the position of my foot (even sleeping with my surgical shoe on) and didn't want to cause myself any more pain. I am definitely a side sleeper though, and once I got past the 2 week mark, I started trying to sleep on my side some (still with the surgical shoe on for protection, just in case). I am able to sleep this way, but it might be awkward for some. In the last week, I haven't even had my shoe on.... but have been sleeping on one side or the other every night. Basically, my knees are bent with the calf/shin area resting on the slanted part. It sounds awkward... and probably isn't as good as elevating as the position in the photo, but I'm at a point post-op that I don't really have to elevate all night anyway... I'm only still doing it because I think it helps. I don't think everyone would be comfortable trying to sleep this way though, so I would not plan on side sleeping with this(;It seems many people use this for their backs. My mom has some back problems, and once I am finished using the leg rest, I was going to give it to her to try. Will update if I can on that.Last, the cover. I was trying to be really prepared, and bought an extra cover (the blue one). Ended up just putting the blue cover OVER the white one that came on the leg rest, but then I put a towel over the whole thing anyway... LOL There are a few fuzzies on one section of the blue cover that isn't covered with the towel, so I think it does pill fairly easily. If you don't want to spend the money for an extra cover (they aren't cheap), but are worried about ruining the cover it comes with, just put a towel over it...easy enough.Other products I recommend for those who have had bunion surgery (or any foot surgery):A shower chair... they are reasonably priced here on amazon. I suggest one that has height adjustment. The one I got was called Shower Seat, and I will review it when I have a chance. I didn't want to need it, but oh my.... I was so glad I had it, especially those first few showers when I couldn't stand longer than a minute, tops. I am still using it to sit on when I am shaving my legs(;http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GD0N9AO/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Also a cast and bandage protector... I got the Brownmed SEAL TIGHT, in the 'adult short leg wide'... and it was perfect. The 'wide' isn't for leg size, but for the size of whatever boot/cast the ring on the protector has to go over. Since mine had to go over a surgical shoe, the wide worked perfectly without having to squish my foot to get it on. I will review this when I can as well.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G0N6E0/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Last, if you have access to an ice machine, take advantage of it! I didn't even know what the darn thing was, but my doctor ordered it, and a home health company dropped it off on the day I had surgery. It basically allows you to ice at the exact interval your doctor recommends... continuously, without any ice at all (mine was set for 30 minutes on/30 off). The machine has a hose that hooks up to a wrap. The wrap is secured around the foot, and in an icing cycle, it sends a cold mix of water through the hose and into the wrap. It also has a compression feature (with tubes that connect to compression wraps) for calf compressions after surgery. I only used the compression feature for the first week or so, but I was using the 'ice' right up until they came and took it off of my foot the other day (I had it for 4 weeks). I shall miss it very much! (;Sorry for being so lengthy, but hope it helps someone!

Great relief from Edema by using the Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover
The Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton CoverASIN: B0024GX6G8Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024GX6G8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I have an autoimmune disease that causes the loss of my equilibrium. I happened to have had a harsh fall, which caused great damaged to two major veins in my one leg in two different areas. This caused the lack of circulation of the blood throughout both of the legs. Therefore, the outcome was edema (fluid) setting into both legs, but especially within the injured leg. Within 3 days my weight increased from 188 lbs. to over 220 lbs. I was not able to even wear a shoe on the injured leg because of the swelling. In my research I came across an excellent article through Google that in such cases the leg must be elevated above the heart level, since the edema fluid gravitates to the lower points of the body which is to the legs, with the legs elevated the fluid then gravitated to the central area of my body where the fluid would be in the proper area to be dispensed to the proper organs. As continued to research for a medical apparatus and I hit the Amazon Website, which I happen to be an avid Amazon Prime consumer. The link directed me to the Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover on the Amazon Website. As I continued to look at numerous different types of Leg Rest, considering their shape, size, height, width and length that would be compatible to my height (which happens to be 6 feet and 1 inch). I finally came to the conclusion that the “Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover” ASIN: B0024GX6G8 was for me. Even though the height was only 14 inches high, I felt compelled to place two firm standard size pillows on the Elevated Leg Rest to increase the high which added an extra 6 inches or more.Of course I had consulted with my Doctors regarding this situation and idea which they were in total agreement with my decision. My injury initially took place the beginning of the second week of June, I ordered the Elevating Leg Rest July 29, 2016, but because of the weekend it was delivered on August 2nd, it is now August 29th and over the past month I have seen an enormous change in both legs. Since I already had poor circulation due to problems from a heart condition; for a number of years I have been battling with edema in my one leg where the veins were damaged in a fall, prescription did help to a point by did not make such a change until after using the Elevated Leg Rest. During the first two weeks of using the Elevating Leg Rest I saw a very slow change in my weight, although the swelling from the edema was slowly decreasing, but it was not as bad as it originally had been, although it had improved to the point that I was able to wear a shoe on my injured leg. The third and fourth following weeks after using the Elevating Leg Rest, I saw an enormous change of the edema fluid being removed from my body. As of August 29th I have lost 30 lbs. of fluid from the edema with in my legs. My weight now is just a few pounds higher than my normal weight. This Elevating Leg Rest was the best choice for my condition. If you do suffer from edema, the swelling of the legs, it is normal for the fluid to gravitate to the lower extremities of the body. First, always check with your Doctors, then the best action is to keep the legs higher than the level of your heart especially throughout the night hours and when you can, in the day hours as well. After a couple weeks of using the Elevating Leg Rest, I found the urge to use the bathroom a number of times throughout the night and day to relieve the fluid that was draining to the center of my body and being consumed into the proper organs that allowed the fluids to be discharged.Thank you, Hermell Products Inc., for selling this product. It has been a great help after suffering for a month before I found a solution that worked and especially for the use of this Elevating Leg Rest; in one month it has brought healing to both of my legs, but especially to the leg that was extremely injured. I will continue to use the Elevating Leg Rest until I see all edema continues to be discharged from my body and when I see the edema reoccurring.Sincerely,Joseph Snook
