Having purchased a BMW e91 Touring M-Sport recently, I also purchased a replacement Android stereo to allow me to have DAB+, Google Maps, hands free calls etc. etc. Fitting the stereo was much easier than in previous cars, the (CANbus compatible) wiring was pre-configured to allow the steering wheel controls to work out of the box; not something I've come across with previous Japanese cars (Lexus and Toyota). Having fitted the stereo, everything worked as expected. However, I had lots of noise/interference through the speakers. Both DAB+ and FM as well as with nothing playing. It was a mixture of a high pitched tone that changed when accelerating and a lower pitched 'crackle' type of sound. Research suggested numerous potential causes, but most people pointed to alternator whine/ground issues as the culprit. Anyway, fitting this box (which was very easy for someone with a little bit of knowledge about wiring) has resolved the issue entirely. All the unwanted noise has gone...nothing. Well in short, it worked! Don't know why insulation is so thick for such thin conductors.
