From The Jungle To The Boardroom Review: The Real Deal - Honest and Inspiring - Warning this review is biased because Mike is my Dad but biased does not mean untrue. I can vouch for the authenticity of what he has shared, I was there for most of the story or have seen the transition first hand. Mike's (Dad's) story is no short of a miracle. I can remember growing up and thinking that my only options in life were to become a tradesman and to carry out the family's blue collar heritage. I have no bones to pick with a hardworking blue collar way of life but for me it was a limit placed on me. I was not aware there was another way. I thought my only value was my physical labor. My Dad has taught me that our spirit is much more valuable. My Dad's journey is very unlikely and I can vouch for his sincerity in this book. What I have really enjoyed about his book is that I know the stories and I find myself saying but what about the good part of the story. I give my dear old Dad credit as well as Ann Weber his editor. They weaved a life time of stories and created a very compelling vision of showing up in life. They saved the good parts to make points along the way. I will have to remember the technique when I write my first book! My take away from the book is if we have a little faith and courage along the journey of life it can take some amazing turns. Yes I am biased about "From the Jungle to the Boardroom" I think a better title would be "A Real Man Living an Extraordinary Life, An Everyman's Guide to Living a Miracle." I am very fortunate to have such a great role model available to me and better yet he is my father. Dad, thanks for expanding the "perceived limits" I was born with. FYI- If you are looking for a great role model I am happy to lend my Dad to you. Many through Life Success Seminars in Cincinnati have already taken advantage of this offer, I hope you will too. Sincerely, Brian Monahan Review: Exceptional treatise on leadership and life... - This book boils down keys to taking charge of the quality of one's own life in simple as well as entertaining ways. The author uses stories from his experience as a young man being sent to fight in Vietnam, and relates those experiences to what he learned about how to be successful in life. He asks three important questions that help him (and us!) focus on life differently. I loved that his examples and vignettes of his own experience were so eloquent in making his points. I know I will be better equipped to take personal responsibility for what I do with my own life from here by keeping his three questions in mind. Great read, quick read, one that will make a difference.....

Awesome Read
Mike Monahan's book, From the Jungle to the Boardroom, is as unique as he is. Mike has a way of bringing everything right down to the core of what, why and how. And it all relates to how to live life better. He starts by taking us through his very personal experiences of being drafted into the Army and the time he spent fighting in the Viet Nam war. Then came the day he attended the personal growth seminar called Basic and how that not-so-little weekend seminar changed him and how he lives his own life. After spending time as a volunteer within the non-profit organization that puts on the Basic seminar, he ultimately became the organization's CEO and has been leading the organization - with great success for many years. Start by reading Mike's book, and better yet, find a way to get to Cincinnati and attend a Basic seminar! Then your life will change forever and for the better!

Wish I had this advice twenty years ago
Some books I read for fun. Other books I read to gain insight on a subject. Mike Monahan's "From the Jungle to the Boardroom" offers both. The simple wisdom that delivers deep lessons is a rare find in the self help aisle. Monahan has a way of relaying his experiences in a way that entertains while it teaches. I bought copies for my adult children and my parents and we all enjoyed it. It was odd how we all took away different messages from the same book. This book left me wanting to know more about how Monahan looks at life. I am very curious to see what he has up his sleeve next.

Perfect timing
From the Jungle to the Boardroom kept me flipping the pages pretty quickly because it made so much sense. I enjoyed how Mike Monahan's real-life stories of Vietnam and his experiences then and now relate to situations we face in everyday life. Mike may refer to himself as an unlikely leader, but it's clear he is courageous and inspiring. The chapter "Going to the Dogs" had me cracking up and is worth the price of the book all on its own. Great book and I look forward to more.

Don't miss this one!
Having grown up in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, I had little understanding of this significant event in our history. This was a sensitive topic that was never discussed in history class or textbooks, and I always wondered how soldiers endured the harsh conditions and the psychological challenges that confronted them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From the Jungle to the Boardroom gives readers a glimpse of one person's daily experience on the front lines of the Vietnam War, and tangible examples of how Mike Monahan continues to apply his experience to creating a life worth living - not only for himself, but also with his children, his wife, his friends and for every life he impacts as facilitator of the Basic seminar [...]. This book is a good read - in bite-size chapters, it gives readers tools we can all apply in our own lives.

One has to be a different state of mind to read and enjoy the book. I, luckily , got myself ready in that state of mind and enjoyed it. One critical observation, unfortunately, is the pricing.
