For some reason, this design is not particularly common. This is a shame because it is very handy.The bowl isn't too big, and the base helps prevent toppling. I used this with a bar of Williams shaving soap and it fit easily (I suspect others would work as well).I do agree that the handle is a little sharp, but I don't mind it much considering the great design.

Sad that this would have been a perfect product if the handle edges had been polished. As it is, any outright metal burrs after the component was stamped or pressed out have been removed, but there is a nearly sharp edge around the handle on both sides, and this makes picking up and using the cup uncomfortable. I just received this today and immediately upon removing from packaging I noticed the big detraction. Paying this much for a utility cup, silver plating or not, I expect a completely finished product. The cup itself looks nice and has a good heft to it. Note that it will not properly accommodate 2.25 in. soap cakes as claimed without it floating above the bottom curvature of the cup. That's not all bad, but the diameter would be better if it were 3 or more inches. Users should be careful to purchase size small soap cakes for best fit. Also, I have not yet found the country of origin, but will return to the advertisement and check again. I see no mark on the cup itself to indicate mfr. or country of origin. I'd also like to know the substrate, or base metal. Due to the handle, I'm thinking of requesting a return authorization and buying a slightly larger unit somewhere else, possibly even ceramic despite its fragility. Shame, as the handle itself is the sticking point with me.

Honestly, I purchased this shaving mug because everything else in my bathroom is silver/chrome (including my soap dispenser, razor stands, toothbrush holder, &tc.), and not because I had any high hopes that it would keep my shaving soap warm.The cup is great for mixing lather (wide and deep) and I get a good foam with it every morning. On the other hand, you will need a bowl or basin to fill with hot water and set the cup in if you want your shaving soap to stay warm between passes. I have been using this cup for several months now (as of January '15), and am suffering no rust or spotting problems (I just ensure that I dry it thoroughly after each use).

I was glad when it arrived and it wasn't really silver plated... I almost returned it because I only realized it was silver plated after I bought it... but it's a good chrome finish that should hold up without polishing and the handle fits my fingers and is finished smoothly...So far, I'm pleased...

No silver plating at all. It is just a stainless steel cup. Serves the purpose though.

Attractive item and holds the shaving soap in good form. In the shower I like the Handle...does the Job. Can keep on bathroom looks goodcounter....
