Snapped right in where the old one was, no drilling screwing etc, easy peasy! I remove the battery in Oct every year when I winterize the RV and put it back in in May, so it is only powered up half the year and it lasted just over 10 years that way, Does that mean It would last only 5 years if it was powered up continuously? I don't know but last fall was the first time I forgot to remove the battery for the winter and the old one started chirping during the winter. replacing the battery did not help The instruction stated that the three chirp pattern meant it needed to be replace so I ordered this one and I expect it to last 10 years as well. Did leaving it powered up in sub-zero temperatures shorten its life?
