Incredible read, highly recommend!!
This book is one of the best UX books I’ve ever read. I’ve read through a handful of UX books and this one tops the cake! It is the most thorough and informative book hands down. I’ve learned more about UX research through this book more than my college courses and even through out my career. This book can be read straight through or casually read through on and off. It’s a FANTASTIC reference guide and it is incredibly useful to use on the job. I highly recommend this book to any one who is curious about UX research and even those who have been in the field for years.Definitely purchase the book, it will be worth it, no matter how skilled you are in UX!

Self-described anywhere, anytime reader for those wanting to learn more or improve their UX Research
"Hmm let's see, what workshops am I holding today? Ah, a user journey mapping session with the Product Owner. I wonder if this is covered in the book for any extra pointers I haven't thought about... Yep! Page 195."This book is self-described and intended as a bathroom, on-the-go, anywhere, or anytime reader that doesn't need to be read from back to front. Flip straight to whatever topic you want to learn more about when and as you need it, but nothing is stopping you from still starting on page 1 and learning everything there is to know. If you've been an avid reader of the UserFocus articles by co-author Dr David Travis over the years, you will find some of these chapters lifted directly from those articles. However, instead of bookmarking URLs and hoping those web pages stay up forever, just bookmark them here on the convenient, physically printed copy.

UNBELIEVABLE - Incompatible with a classic kindle and cloud reader
This book gets great reviews but there are technical issues with this book that makes it sub-optimal. I can only read this book on my iPhone in the kindle app. In the cloud reader and classic kindle device I am unable to read this book. NOT GOOD

Following the advice found in this book can only improve your team and product
Travis and Hodgson do a fantastic job setting the stage of true user experience research by identifying several popular trends that masquerade as UX. Like David Travis' courses on Udemy, the book offers highly practical advice with clear examples that teach best practices for those who are either new to the world of user experience or serve as a reminder for those who are seasoned UX practitioners. Not only is it chock-full of research-backed user experience information, but each section ends with a call-to-action for the reader to spend some time pondering what they read and acting to improve their own expertise. As the new lead of a software development team where the team has little-to-no background in user experience, I already have several practices that I want to implement thanks to this book. Particularly, the authors quote a study that states the most effective development teams spend at least two hours every six weeks observing users.Following the advice found in this book can only improve your team and product. I hold a user experience certification from Nielsen Norman Group, a bachelors of science in web design from Purdue University, and have 7 years as the lead for a university web communication team - all of that to say - this book is well worth the $50 price tag.

A must read for any UX professional
David Travis and Philip Hodgson are genuine UX professionals, drawing from their diverse and incredible experiences. I have had the pleasure of working with them and know their value from first hand experience. Their deep expertise and ability to elegantly communicate and explain key concepts is fantastic. This book is a must read for any one at any stage of their design career. If you're a people manager, buy a copy for every team member; seriously.

The best book about UX out there
As a (junior) UX professional in her 2nd year at work, I find this book so helpful in providing guidance to all the common challenges a UX practitioner sees in a company where UX is just starting. the books walks through the problems, the solutions, and more importantly, specific cases and even conversations—I read some of them more than once. I am beyond grateful to have read this book and wish it was part of the HCI curriculum at college: the discussion questions were informative and inspiring enough to be a paper prompt XD. This book creates a community!

Valuable and engaging resource!
Excellent book for UX researchers and anyone looking to better understand the work we do! David Travis and Philip Hodgson brilliantly present a comprehensive guide, divided into sections (essays), making it easy to digest the content. They provide a series of thought-provoking questions at the end of each section designed to help readers further reflect on the topics. This is an exceptional resource to aid UX researchers in preparing for competency-based job interviews as well. I highly recommend this book!
