Just what I was looking for!
I don't usually write reviews, but since there is hardly anything out there on this rug, I thought someone else might benefit from the info I was searching for. I was on the hunt for a new rug for our play room, and this rug is exactly what I was looking for! With twin toddlers and 7 year old big sis, I spend LOTS of time on the floor playing. I was looking for something soft and comfortable, yet durable too. This rug fits the bill in every way!1) It's the perfect off-white color (matches great with both a bright white kids table and with our more ivory colored desk and bookshelves from Ikea).2) The pile is a great length, about an inch long. It's not made of yarn like lots of other shag rugs that look more like long carpet. It's more like a nylon cording (exactly what I was hoping for). And let me tell you, it is ridiculously soft! And I love how there are two different thicknesses to provide added texture.3) The backing is very well made. The underside of the rug is a nice grey color, but the top of the backing (the part you see if you separate the pile) is the same off-white as the cording. It has nice finished edges, the same grey color as the back. I can see how some people might not like that the edges are grey, but it doesn't bother me one bit. The shag is long enough that you rarely even catch a glimpse of it.4) Amazon's price can't be beat. Once I decided on this rug (despite the lack of other reviews), I searched around and found at least half a dozen other sites offering the same rug and size for at least $250 more, some as high as $400 more.5) The only complaint I have is the packaging it came in. It was shipped in just a very thin sheet of plastic which must have torn during shipping from the weight of the rug as it was transferred from truck to truck. It arrived on my doorstep torn and half open, and I'm just glad I pulled it in before the rain came a few hours later! I bought another rug for a different room a week before, and it was triple wrapped with very thick plastic. What a difference. That being said, I don't think it had an impact on the rug. If anything, it just speaks for the quality of the backing since things seem to be fine.I took a chance on this rug since there weren't many reviews for me to judge from, and I am so pleased with my purchase. And while I'm using it in our playroom, it's a very high-end looking rug. I would happily use it in our living room too. The twins flock to it every morning, and my older daughter likes to just lay there and do snow angles! It's so soft under your feet, and it's a dream to lay on! I highly recommend.

Perfect rugs!
I needed two black rugs to go on either side of my guest bed and hasn’t been able to find something I liked that didn’t have a rubberized backing or that didn’t look like a bath mat. I have other Safavieh rugs so I thought I’d take a chance. The rugs are super soft and the have a little longer than normal, shaggy pile. The color is a rich, true black and there is no rubber backing to damage my floors. It does take a couple weeks for the rugs to unroll properly and lay flat so be patient. These rugs are not machine washable and I just take them outside and shake them out instead of washing or vacuuming them. Very happy with my purchase!

FYI, this rug has ZERO padding.
I love the look and color of this rug and it was marked down to a good price, so I'm keeping it. But beware. There is pretty much no padding in this rug and if used on a hardwood floor, it will be very hard and unsatisfying to stand on. And don't even attempt to get down on your hands and knees to play with your kid. Your kneecaps and elbows will be ground to a powder that could be used as a medical placebo much like like rhino horn.It could really stand to be fuller, as you can actually see and feel the thin, rough backing through the top if you move the fibers with your hand. Pretty low density. I'd hazard to guess this is a middle-aged rug trying to cover its sparseness with a little bit of a comb-over. It's shaggy but not full enough to truly be called a "shag rug". I would not pay more than $250 for an 8x10.It stays put on its own quite well, but I had to buy a rug pad to at take its bone-grinding power down a notch. And even after adding one, it's not a rug I would roll around on like a rabid horse. Also, the thicker of the fibers (multiple widths are used) is shiny. It's not a gaudy shine, though. Not suitable for Donald Trump. Just enough to catch the light for the common man.Buy it for looks.

Large size covers plenty of area!
Nice carpet I like it.

Rug is nice, but definitely shiny!
I ordered this rug after looking at several sites and comparing various products. I had a really hard time deciphering what the actual shag would look/feel like since the picture used for this product was also used for several different products and I had a feeling it was not accurate. I was right. The inivudual shag strands are very thick and the overall look of the rug has a sheen to it. The color is not gray, but more of a silver. From a distance the shiny effect fades and it just looks like a gray shag rug (probably why the picture is so off). The color is a cool color, not warm and has purple undertones (note that the rug doesn't look purple though).Luckily I still really like the rug and think it will work. The pile is thick and silky feeling. It just arrived so I have not vacuumed it yet, but it looks like it won't shed.

Inconsistent Quality
I love this rug, but it was a huge hassle to finally find a matching two, which is the reason for three star rating. I needed two 4x6 rugs attached together for a 13ft long hallway. I had to order, return and reorder a total of six rugs in order to find a matching two. Manufacturing date is stamped on the back of the rugs and depending on that date, the color, size, thickness, odor and shedding varies. I ordered beige. Color varied from light champagne beige, dirty greenish beige and dark tan beige. Some were narrow or wider by couple inches. I received one that was so sparse that you could see backing through the shag. Some shed much more than others and the odor on a couple were offensive. The first rug I received was plush, bright light champagne, exactly 4x6, no shedding and no odor- I loved it! I didn’t find it again until the sixth reorder. I’m absolutely happy with my final rugs but quality is super inconsistent. Good luck reordering if you don’t receive what you want.
