Meridee Winters Chord Crash Course Book 2: A Teach Yourself Piano Book for Older Beginners and Adults

Learn what matters in music theory painlessly.
Meridee's books are transformative. As a life long piano playing girl and woman, I wish I would have had these books as a kid. I can't wait to practice these exercises myself -- the patterns are something we all should learn out of the gate -- like I said, I wish I had these books as a kid. I hope Meridee keeps creating books that make our skills deeper and FUN. I hope she does a book on each of the basic cords with patterns. Need to get those fingers nimble in each of the cords -- especially the most popular ones. Meridee, I am a TOTAL fan and only wish my grandkids could attend your school. I am doing the next best thing -- using your books with them. Keep it up Girl, you are a gift to the world of music and I bet the foundation for future composers!!!! Mary Frances

very good chord approach You won't quit
I have been teaching piano for decades and haven't found a book as good as this for students to understand the fundamentals of chords and one, four, five chord progressions. All music is formed with chord structure and inversions, Classical music structure is not usually explained to students, Beethoven's Fur Elise is a good example it starts with an A minor chord then goes to E that is a One, Five progression in A minor then it goes to Major one, five C to G etc..... understanding the chords makes it easier to memorize music too. Learning chords and inversions opens up all types of music and inspires creativity to write your own music. This book makes it easy to understand music structure and chords, Awesome book, check it out!

Excellent, funny and educational
This book is excellent. It lets you learn at an even pace, that is steady and progressive. There is plenty of witty commentary in each chapter. There is a typo on page 69, however. It says "The dominant chord is made up of the major chord plus a minor seventh(which is a half-step below the root/octave.)" It should say "whole step".

Chord inversion patterns every pianist should know
I can play Chopin nocturnes but had a hard time reading modern music from lead sheets. I went through the book and 10 days later I am playing covers of all my favorite pop songs! The content is easy to read, clear and succinct.

Perfect for piano plunkers like me.
Definitely recommend Book 2 as a follow up. Most important aspect is learning chord inversions. Teaches chord positions and using the most practical neighboring inversions. Makes keyboard learning more fun, less frustrating. Varied music style chord patterns also a plus. Try them all on your set lists- you’ll feel more accomplished as a piano chord player!!!

Good for intermediate classically trained players wanting familiarity and exercises for chords.
I have up to now had a fairly traditional learning to piano. Scales, some theory, learning pieces, classical and modern, that introduce new elements, timing, rhythms, octaves, arpeggios, etc. But what was missing is chords, progression, inversions, including variations used in jazz, blues, and if using a fake book how to choose the left hand chords, voicings, inversions, broken or arpeggiated patterns to go with the melody. This book covers the basics for all of that with useful exercises to help with learning, understanding and muscle memory. Enjoy the cartoons if they are something you like but I just want and focus on the content, the patterns, exercises. You can use it whilst still following a traditional learning path or learning new pieces. I cannot wait for book 3 if there is going to be one.

Play “real” music quickly
Absolutely love this book. It brings “real” music learning. It builds very nicely on the patterns and techniques used in book 1. Useful for using alongside other methods especially because there is no emphasis on learning to read the notes. There is also a tendency to do everything in C; although there is a whole chapter on transposition. Other than that it’s a fantastic addition to the music library of all teachers, pupils and anyone who’s learning piano. Well worth the investment.

Well worth the time.
I bought so that I could learn enough about piano chords to be able play songs from lead sheets. It has helped me do this and have fun at the same time
