They burn clean, without smoke or odor, Each packet will burn ~10 minutes or so which is the key advantage, lasting long enough to get the fire going. No need to unwrap it, I just set one below the wood, light the wrapper with a single match and I have a fire a few minutes later. On the same note, these are very flammable so maybe keep in a different pocket than your lighters, flint, etc.Once up, these give a hot, full sized flame for their full advertised time... even in light rain.
