Tough-1 Freedom Muzzle w/ Nylon Headstall - Horse

Ordered this item because I saw mixed reviews but figured I would give it a try because I have a cribber. Never again! It is huge, heavy, and has no breakaway straps on it. If a horse gets it caught on something it would be incredibly dangerous, not to mention it is very heavy on the horses head! I do not recommend this product.

My husband got a new horse and he loves to chew on everything! This muzzle works great. The horse can drink and even eat with it on. I’m real happy with the way he accepted the muzzle. We don’t leave it on the horse all the time, just the days he is chewing stuff up. He has good days and bad days.

I was skeptical about using this item after getting a good look at the design. I was also somewhat desperate to try something to control my mares cribbing and fast eating habit. The reason for my concern was the risk of the "muzzle cage" getting hung on something and creating a bigger issue. Well, after letting my mare use it for a day while I was around to watch, I thought it was going to be OK. However, it was about a week later, she managed to get her front hoof stuck through the muzzle cage and the neck strap was still over her neck. So, her head and neck were held down to knee level, and she could not raise her head. Thank goodness she was smart enough to not kill herself. Fortunately I was around most of the day and she could not have been in that predicament for more than 3 hrs. at most...but still ;-( My husband used bolt cutters to cut the muzzle cage off of her leg. Since the muzzle cage was fitted close against her muzzle, it beats the heck out of me what she did, other than blatantly try to remove it with her hoof, and then got her hoof stuck through it in the process. A break-away head strap would be an improvement. End result of my experience with this item: It is not worth the risk to try this item.

Good quality I really recommend it

Velcro sides make this come off very easy. Almost needs buckets. I ordered a regular horse and it is big on my horse chin strap hangs almost as long as the muzzle and does not fit like the picture. Muzzle portion is heavy duty but doesn’t do much good if they can pull it off easily.

Insanely huge and heavy! Very disappointed. I have a normal size horse and there is NO WAY I would ever put this on him.
