Becoming Kuan Yin: The Evolution of Compassion

Time has come
This is a wonderful book. It truly reflects and offers the breadth, and width and depth of Kuan Yin and her compassionate, kindhearted nature to all sentient beings. Reading the book is an incredible opportunity to tune into receiving her healing gift of light which can then be easily used in an intentional way to radiate outward toward others as well as inwards towards healing ones own wounds both emotional and physical. The manner in which the girl, Miao Shin, evolves into the enlightened Bodhisatva, Kuan Yin is a valuable teaching. After reading this book the first time, I immediately recommended and/or purchased copies for friends and family. I believe this book is a valuable tool for all who are willing to truly open to her message.

THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL
the first book i read of stephen levine's was A GRADUAL AWAKENING back in 1987 and it was instrumental in starting me on a lifetime meditation journey. i hadn't really read anything of his since. he fully enters into the heart of kwan yin giving her full spiritual evolutionary story. stephen's meditations on the book are wonderful, stressing the benefits of softening the belly in the meditation process . stephen clearly is an evolved being with a wide open loving heart. read this book it is a real gift. since reading KWAN YIN i have also read stephen's ENTERING INTO THE MYSTERY which is his spiritual autobiography-again, a real gift.

Have to read again and again
I have so many books I want to read I essentially never read a book more than once. This one is an exception. There is so much deep, simply put, and profound wisdom there is no way to absorb and retain it in one sitting. I am going to give it some time and come back to reading this. Probably more than a second and third time. Highly recommend!

I think too much like an American trained in science
This book reminds me of the many books I've read by and about Karl Jung. I love them, but I've had to learn to read them like a rock in a river, appreciating what sticks as the water flows by. There is so much in here that is true about compassion, presented in a way that's unusual for this practicing psychologist. If you are accustomed to reading this type of book, or willing to go with the flow (literally, I think), then you will find much to appreciate.

Excellent
I loved this book. I’m not buddhist and I enjoyed learning deeper layers of forgiveness, love and compassion. If you want to love yourself and be of benefit to others in life....read this.

Interesting but...
I am a great lover of Kuan Yin and the compassion she teaches. I was thoroughly enjoying this book until I took it with me to a class taught by a world-renowned qigong teacher. I took to book to him to ask how to pronounce one of the mantras properly, and he looked at it for awhile, then said, "This doesn't say anything. The characters don't make sense." He told me to stick with a mantra I already knew and to disregard anything in this book. He's been speaking and writing Chinese for over 40 years. I trust him.So take that for what it's worth.

A gift
This book feels like a beautiful gift from a beautiful person who contributed so much to so many. The writing is lyrical and empassioned. The teachings and practices presented are powerful and timeless. If you ever feel like your Buddhist practice is getting a bit dry and formulaic, read this!

A personal invocation
I recently learned of Stephen Levine's death and purchased this book in gratitude for his compassionate writing. I have not read all of it yet. There are gems of insight within the text and I love the chapter on singing and the beautiful commentary on dreaming. A book to pick up when needing healing and inspiration / reminding of kindness. A personal invocation of the Feminine spiritual qualities present in his work with others.
