Great steamer. Fits loads of different size saucepans. Easy to clean and can go in the dishwasher.

Fantastic but don’t forget the water!
Second time we’ve bought this to steam veggies for our children as we accidentally melted the previous one trying to steam it without water 🤦 Pros - light, - easy to clean, - quick to dry Cons - melts if you forget to put water underneath as you are meant to do! Conclusion: Fab product from J&J - hope not to have to buy another one but we probably will if we manage to break it again!

As expected
Love Joseph Joseph products. This was a replacement steamer as my original JJ melted in the saucepan - my fault as I let the water dry out - will be more careful with this one. I love the size and look of this and steams my veg to perfection. It's good and strong and folds in on itself therefore saving on storage.

It melts, it cracks, it breaks...but I keep buying them!
I have now had four of these Joseph Joseph steamers over a period of about 3 - 4 years so I hope I might be able to give you a little information that will help you to decide if they are a product you wish to purchase. Are the JJ silicone/polypropylene steamers built to last? Absolutely not. I have had one of the 'Lotus' model steamers and three 'Bloom' steamers. After around a year of use one of three faults inevitably occurs and I have to purchase a new steamer. What faults have I experienced with my steamers? Melting of the silicone feet, peeling, discoloration and deterioration of the polypropylene used in the main body of the steamer and eventually, disintegration or cracking and breaking of the plastic/polymer which results in the whole steamer falling apart. If a pan boils dry, even if only for 20 seconds or so, the feet will almost certainly melt. However, when the silicone ages a little, I have also had instances where the feet have melted when in water. It is very, very difficult to find out what the main body of the steamer is made from (Amazon suggests polypropylene) but this also becomes brittle and dry over time which eventually results in cracking or breaking. With my steamers, this usually happens after a year or so. My latest steamer fell apart after a year with the 'petals' becoming detached as they had become brittle and dry. The petals do discolour and look old within a few months of use. There also appears to be a transparent lacquer of some sort on top of the polypropylene that begins to peel after around 6 months. All of this is with daily, once-a-day use and washing by hand. So, given that these steamers melt, break and disintegrate, why have I bought four of them? I ask myself the same question each time I am tempted to buy another. I am also deeply ashamed of myself knowing the environmental implications of doing so. There is one main reason why I can't seem to resist these steamers and that is the ease of lifting the steamer out of a pan without burning my fingers. Before these, I had always used metal steamers and I still have several. Without fail, I will manage to burn my fingers when lifting the steamer out of the pan, as you might be familiar with yourself. Yes, I have tried using a fork/oven glove/tea towel. Sadly, this is the one quality the JJ steamers have that keeps reeling me back in. Do JJ deserve the repeat business on a product that is so 'disposable,' not the best quality and terrible for the environment? No. Will I keep buying them? Please, please can somebody design a better quality, environmentally sound, fit-for-purpose alternative that doesn't burn fingers?

doesn't hold much and only fits large pan
Terrible design. The outside ribs and the bottom diameter of this basket fits only my largest saucepan (20cm) and even then, it doesn't open enough to hold a whole (small) head of broccoli. Its construction is sturdy, and with 2 cm legs, it doesn't need much water -- but if it can't fit a small head of broccoli or reasonable lengths of asparagus or 3 servings of potatoes, then it's not usable for my needs. My previous steamer was a Joseph Joseph stainless steel basket with more "petals" and has lasted about 9 years with frequent use. That one fit all of my saucepans and held twice as much veg (and I could remove the centre stem to hold even more). I'll keep trying to fix that one.

Like most of you I grew up in a home that had a metal steamer. This is such an upgrade - bordering on exponential if I am being totally honest. Easier to clean, more durable and best part, you don't lose the little feet like you would with the old school metal steamer. Worth the $$
