Very easy to use
I haven't tested yet in long conversation with any native speakers, so can't say for sure how accurate the translation is. The device is well designed and easy to setup and use. I have it connected to an iPhone XR. Pros: * Very easy to setup. Basically just download the app and do a bluetooth connection. * The interface is very intuitive. Dropdown menu lets you change languages quickly and easily. * It does a good job picking up what you are saying. * The app shows what you said and what the translation is. So if you aren't sure if it heard you correctly you can look at what it heard on the screen. You can also show the written translation to somebody in case they can't hear or understand the translator. It saves a long text history of the last translations so you can refer back. You can also erase them if you don't want people to see the history. * You can push the button again within 30 seconds of the last translation and it will repeat it. * Good overall design. It is sleek and fits in hand well while keeping the microphone and speaker above your hand so your hand doesn't block either. *Battery life seems very good. Cons: * It needs the phone for connectivity. This may be obvious, but not sure if that would cause issues if trying to use in a different country and using international roaming data. * There apparently are volume controls built into the device, but they are touch buttons that aren't labeled and are hard to find. Much easier to control volume from phone app. * Only has 6 languages to translate to English (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Spanish Spain, and Spanish Mexico). Will be nice if they update the app with more languages over time. The pros far outweigh the cons. This is a nice device that is easy to use.

Leisure Travel
I bought this product last month in preparation for a trip to Spain for vacation. I'm just a beginner in learning Spanish, so I was hopeful this product could fill in the gaps. It was easy to install and easy to use, so I was excited about using it on my trip. Because it has to be connected to WIFI, it was virtually useless in situations where I needed to use it, such as taxis, train stations, or almost anywhere I needed it. It worked fine in my hotel, when I connected to the hotel WIFI, but hotel staff was already bilingual, so no need for it in the hotel. It may work well for a business trip where you're in an office building with WIFI, but for the leisure traveler, it's pretty useless.

Accurate Translations!
This little device is awesome and accurate!! Iโm a fluent Spanish speaker and can say that the translation is spot on (for Spanish). It even does a nice job with slang which I didn't think it would be able to do. The device requires your phone to be connected to it via bluetooth. This is how the device gets its updates and this is how you also control the languages to translate from and to. It supports a good amount of languages and because it is through the app on your phone, I imagine that they may add more languages to the list in the future. The device looks very stylish. Itโs made out of plastic with a nice glossy finish. Although it does attract fingerprints, it has a nice elegant look to it. The speaker/mic is on the back of the device and is able to pickup on voice well, and also sounds well when doing the translation. The box comes with a small magnetic charger to charge the device. Battery life is quite well, the device will go into power save if not used for a few minutes which helps conserve some juice. Overall Iโm quite impressed and satisfied with the device. I mostly like its accuracy, being portable and having a good speaker to listen to the translations.

Very handy tool and simple to use!
TLDR: A great product that will accurately translate several languages in both directions. It's not speedy but it works great! I work in a profession where from time to time I am in a situation where there is a language barrier. It's not long conversations but at times there are important things that get missed because of it, so I thought this handheld translator might be just the thing. First off the packaging is sleek! It's like what you get when you buy an apple product. Inside the box is the translator, a manual and a charging base. The device is very streamlined and fits well in your hand. I have big hands and was worried when I first saw it in person, but it fits comfortably. My wife who has very small hands agreed that it is very ergonomic. The charge cable is a two-pronged magnetic base that fits securely on the back of the device, and the instructions on use are simple and very clear. I used an apple brick to charge mine and it charged quickly. I'm using an Apple device and the app wasn't a huge download and gave very clear instructions on how to pair the device, which worked well. It wasn't instant or automatic when you open the app but it was quick enough. From the app, you can control the languages, the volume of the device and other settings. The device understood my voice and the other people I tried it on very well. I did feel like it 'heard' much better the closer the device was to the person speaking's mouth. The two-way translation works very well. I will say that it doesn't at this time adjust the English translation for proper sentence structuring but that's not a problem. It does seem to structure things properly going FROM English to your chosen language though. Currently, it only has 7 languages but they plan on adding 40 more as the software moves to final release if I'm not mistaken. The translation is not super fast, and the worse your cellular connection, the slower the translation. My primary need is translation between English and Mexico Spanish. I was only able to get that particular language to connect and work one time. I was able to get away with using the Spain version of Spanish. The translations and usage between the two are slightly different, but it got the job done. PROS: Holds a very long charge Charges Quickly Fits well in the hand Software and device are simple to use. Translates accurately CONS 1)Mexico Spanish server connection didn't work reliably for me *******UPDATE 11/8/19********** The Mexico Spanish server seems to be working fine now so this is no longer a CON! 2)A bit slow to translate a conversation (you won't be having a rapid-fire back and forth with it) Overall this is a really handy device, especially for the price. It isn't going to allow you to step into the halls of the UN and have rapid deep conversations because it's not quick enough, but for translating important information accurately, it's definitely a winner, especially given all the new languages they plan to add. I'm also sure that the translation servers will get quicker too as they further develop the product.

Not for real life cultural experiences... Or children
Let me tell you what this CM Translator is good for. Talking to adults who are patient, loud and who speak clearly. It is great for anyone who wants to have small talk conversation. It is not good for talking to kids. Kids speak too fast and too quiet for this. They will not repeat themselves. If they are crying then forget trying to understand them. I am a foster parent with a Spanish speaking son. The CM translator was supposed to make our lives easier. The translator is flawed. You must keep your phone on you at least 10 feet. It is as good at listening to you as the Google Translate. Sometimes it can take 7 seconds of waiting before it translates. If you are talking to adults that have patience and understanding for the delay then it is fine. Trying to direct your child... Not so much. The stick is very convenient to use. The battery life is good. Trying to pair it with your phone took several attempts and the instructions made it sound so easy. Charging the stick unpairs it from your phone (which is annoying). The instructions speak of a volume switch on the stick which you have to do some weird thumb motion (I still haven't figured it out). Also make sure you use it with no background noise (it doesn't work as well). The lady's voice sometimes breaks up and speaks in slurs if you are in a noisy room. At the end of the day we bought an 84 dollar stick that pretends to be Google translate. It is very easy and non evasive. As long as the adults you are speaking to are patient, understanding and know how to speak clear, slow and loud you will have no problem. Sooo... It is not for real life cultural experiences

Literally Instant translator
This product has been a complete lifesaver and it has worked very well in my everyday use. I'm an English speaker, who lives with a Spanish family, within Chinatown. This device helps me communicate with all different languages with the quick press of a button. It quickly and effectively translates everything perfectly and it logs everything said so you can even read it on the smartphone app. The app is only necessary to pair the device but the device doesn't require the phone to be on at all times, which is a plus. It's loud and very clear when something needs to be re-said. My family loves this device and they even plan on taking it with them on their Europe Tour to speak with the locals! It features many languages to quickly swap between and it can quickly differentiate the speaker by the two languages being spoken. The quality of the device is very nice, comes with clear instructions and is very very sleek with its design. I couldn't recommend an instant translator more than this one, it has served me so well and I can't wait to use it to meet new people in the future!

DO NOT BUY
JANUARY 1, 2023...TRIED AGAIN TO GET HELP FOR MISSING SOFTWARE THROUGH AMAZON....AND NOTHING...SO THIS COMPANY CAN SELL YOU THIS TRANSLATOR AND THEN SUDDENLY STOP ALLOWING YOU TO USE THE SOFTWARE AND AMAZON LET'S THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. This worked great for 4 months. I only needed it for English to Italian translation. It suddenly stopped working and no amount of resetting, reloading or power reset works. Their customer service email no longer is valid. I contacted Amazon who said that HSO Innovation would contact me. I am waiting but I proactively sent an email to them as well. I spent almost $85 for junk I think. Buyer beware. WROTE THE ABOVE IN 2021...THE SOFTWARE JUST DISAPPEARS....DID IT AGAIN AND HAVE TO CONTACT THEM AGAIN EXCEPT YOU CANNOT FIND THEM...FINALLY WENT ON THEIR PAGE AND EMAILED THEM...TERRIBLE!!! UPDATE 12.9.22 ...ON WITH AMAZON TRYING TO EVEN GET A TELNO TO GET SOFTWARE I PAID FOR TO MAKE THIS WORK. IT JUST RANDOMLY DISAPPEARS. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME!

Three days of experience...
My recommendation for CM Instant Translator is so-so. I brought this a couple of days ago, and it got delivered the next day, which never happened to me before. It is excellent for Amazon to be on schedule! However, for the product itself, I don't know what to say about it. I brought this for my mother, who only speaks Cantonese, no English, Mandarin, and others. It is for her to have a conversation with my brother-in-law, who only speaks Vietnamese and English. So I thought this translator should work great for the two. Before my mom and the in-law got to use it, I began the translator's tuning and testing. I am a native speaker of Cantonese, and I also speak both English and Mandarin. So I give it a couple of trials - 1st. Cantonese to Mandarin, way off. In some cases, they repeat the Cantonese sentence. And whoever records the Cantonese probably didn't know that the terminology used in Cantonese is quite different from Mandarin. So the developer needs to hire an actual person who knows the various Canto. 2nd. Cantonese to English. This is much better. But you will need to speak slowly or else the stick won't can it. I do mean slowly, word by word. Most of the translations are in the range. But quite a few of them are laughable. 3rd. Mandarin to English. This is one of the better ones, and I guess it was made in China, right? As I said, I am going to run more trials on this gadget.

There is no customer support
I thought there must be something wrong when I tried to download the Cheetah talk app, it was so difficult to find the app because any sites I tried added loads of spam. Then I discovered that Google had taken all mention of Cheetah Mobile (The parent company) off its web sites. I have been trying for weeks to find cheetah talk customer support, when I look up the company I find that their CEO is in big trouble for fraud. I wanted to download some of the offline language packs that they advertise but can't find them anywhere. I should have stayed with the free Google Translate, everything is free there, even offline language packs. The response of the Cheetah device is much much faster than the Google translate. Buy this device if you have ready access to the internet, offline is another story
