Streamlight 88052 ProTac HL USB Rechargeable Tactical Light, Black

I'm a bit of a flashlight freak, I probably have $2000 in flashlights of various types, but most of them are higher-end tactical type flashlights. People certainly use flashlights differently, they are not a one size fits all product, but with a couple of dozen mid to high-grade flashlights of various types and brands I have to say that for my daily work this flashlight has been my go-to over all of the rest, none of the others have the USB rechargeable feature with the lighting program I prefer. I use my flashlights primarily for inspection work that I do and this flashlight has a program where it cycles from low power to high power with each momentary tail click and it returns to low power after turning the light off. I really like this program, I don't get blinded in really dark situations and I'm always just a click away from a little bit more power...all via the operation of the tail switch. My ProTac has been dropped, tossed, kicked, flipped...you name it, it looks terrible, but still works. The only problem I've had is that occasionally the light doesn't start on the first click, it just flashes once, then I have to re-click the switch. It's pretty random when this happens, I keep it charged, so I don't think that it is the battery, but either the tail switch is getting worn or the bulb is. This particularly purchased was for a backup, I bought my first one in July of 2015, I've used it almost every day, and it is still in use currently I was a Maglite guy for a long time, but I've found myself favoring my Streamlight flashlights since I've invested in a few. I've purchased some tactical Fenix lights recently, but still grab my ProTac. I own some older model Pelicans, I'll probably try a couple of the new rechargeable models of those next, but Streamlight has set the bar pretty high.

3+ years and still going strong. I purchased this light in April 2022 for law enforcement. Being on the job for 20+ years, this light is by far the best primary light I've ever had. Not only do I use it on the job but at home, working on my car, camping, road trips, and any time I need a reliable light source. I've used it in extreme heat/cold, in the rain, in the snow, and everything in between. I've dropped it, rolled it, and overall just beat the crap out of it. Not because I'm trying to break it but because I know I can’t. This light is super bright. It's like a portable compact search light I can hold in the palm of my hand. When I've been in the middle of nowhere at night, where it's pitch black, I've used this light to illuminate acres of land and light up objects almost 100 yards away, that's a football field. I can't believe this light is listed as frequently returned. It must be an error Amazon because this light has a 4.6 rating based on almost 3,000 reviews. I can only assume most of those reviews would have to be positive for the rating to be 4.6 stars. I did see one review which gave it 1 star and the person called it garbage. They didn't say anything else, just called it garbage with no reason behind that statement. The way I was brought up is if you want to voice your opinion, good or bad, have a rational/logical justification to support your opinion. Based on what I know about this light and most of the reviews, which are positive, this person either this person reviewed the wrong light or just doesn't know a great light when they see it. I don't leave many reviews on Amazon but I had to for this one, especially after seeing that review and that it's frequently returned. You can't go wrong with this light and because of that I'm buying a 2nd one to always have at home. That's actually why after 3+ years of owning this light I'm now leaving a review. I was going through my purchase history to find this light to order another one. If you want a great light that won't fail you, buy this light and you won't go wrong. But don't take my word for it, read more reviews, do your own research, and make your own educated decision. Have a great day!

I ALWAYS carry a flashlight. I usually carry an O-Light S1R Baton II. One is always in my pocket. As great as the O-Light is for general day-to-day tasks like finding keys under the seat, or illuminating the ground in front of me to make sure I am not stepping on a snake, it is still a small flashlight. It’s best for those routine tasks that you often need something more powerful than the light on your phone.. When you need a more powerful flashlight, this streamlight is the one to get. As you can see from the photo, mine is well used. This light is always by my back door. I live in the country and it’s prudent here to see what may be in the front yard before I let my dog out in the evenings. During hunting season it always goes with me. Like I said, it gets quite a bit of use. Last year my son broke down and called me. I went there to wait for the tow truck and used the strobe function to alert vehicles (on Interstate 95) that we were on the shoulder. It ran for over an hour and vehicles could see it far enough away that they changed lanes and avoided us. I have also used the strobe when tracking a wounded deer. I turned the strobe on and was able to walk back to where I set it down. It made finding the blood trail easy. This is NOT a pocket flashlight for most people. It’s 6.5” long. This would be ideal for a tradesman or outdoorsman who needed a good dependable flashlight with excellent functionality. I have had this light for 5 years and I am just now having to replace the rechargeable battery. You will NOT be disappointed if you purchase this one.

Excellent flashlight solid feel in your hand and clear optics

This is bigger than I had imagined, but it is super bright. We had some cloud covered days at hunting camp so the solar panels didn’t charge the batteries. I turned on the light, sat it on its base so that it beamed against the ceiling and it lit up the entire kitchen so we could eat. I carry this in a pocket and it is a bit big, but now that I’ve gotten used to carrying it, the size doesn’t seem that big a deal. Interestingly, I use the flashlight more than I do my pocket knife. A quick double tap on the switch and it goes into a low setting. A triple tap and it goes into strobe. The lugs on each side are good for standing it up. I imagine that those lugs could be handy, too, if one needs to use the flashlight as a defensive tool. The case is tough. I had put this in my coat pocket while on a business trip to Chicago, but I found out my pocket had a hole and the flashlight dropped and hit the pavement. A couple of dings to the aluminum case, but it keeps going. When I got home, I filed down the nastiest scars so that it doesn’t snag. The only downsides to this is battery life and the LED never goes to green when charged, but I just put it on the usb charger every evening while I sleep and I carry a pair of 18650 batteries and a charger while traveling. So long as I recharge it every couple of days it’s still operating. A great add-on to this is a Streamlight 22100 battery charger. It comes with a pair of 18650 Li-Ion batteries. Each has a micro USB port so the battery connected to a USB transformer for recharging, or you can drop them into the charging station.

This light is nothing short of amazing. I purchased it because we were going out of the country to a destination where crime had been on the rise and I wanted something that would be legal to travel with on the plane as well as the destination. I also wanted something that would deter/prevent an encounter rather than defend - and boy this was it. Long story short, we stayed in a rather large villa on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The nearest place to us was about 300 yards away up a hill. On the last day we started noticing that items were going missing and that night we came back to find a window opened that we knew we had secured. Thankfully there were many of us to go in two groups to search the villa to be sure no one was hiding. After we were sure there were no uninvited guests we began to unwind and, about two hours later, a person in our group went to their room upstairs to get something and when they came back down they happened upon two men with shirts wrapped around their heads going through a purse that was left out. That person screamed for help and the men ran out the door. We all ran upstairs and called the police. In two hours the police arrived (was pretty lax kind of place) and they looked around the house. I followed the one cop outside and he pulled out a flashlight to see if anyone was hiding in the shrubs/thick that surrounded the villa. It was a substandard light. As he was squinting to see only 50 ft away I pulled out my light and lit the entire area like a ballpark. Stunned, he turned around, looked at me then my light and, with an approving nod said, "nice light". We scanned the rest of the property and concluded the burglars were hiding on the one hillside and waited until we were all on the lower level before sneaking in. I don't know about anyone else, but I wasn't going to bed and three of us stayed up and talked until sunrise - and we scanned the property from a high vantage point in the villa every 10 minutes or so. Whoever was out there, wasn't about to come back and we felt much better with this kind of ability to light up the area at hand. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone who may be subjected to this scenario. On top of that it's just a great tool to have and the fun hasn't stopped there although this event was the time it was needed the most - and hopefully the last! Only problem I have had was when something in my backpack compressed the top of the holster where the actuating button was and kept it on in my bag. The heat from the light burned a home through the bottom of the holster, but caused no other damage - so be careful when storing - not because of the damaged holster, but because I would not have had a charge to use the light when needed had I not discovered the battery was fully discharged. GREAT PRODUCT!

This is the absolute, best, perfect for me flashlight I've ever owned. This is actually the 3rd one I've bought, and it wasn't because the first two quit working or anything, it's because they keep disappearing! The size and weight are amazing for a flashlight that puts out as much light as this one. I've dropped them plenty of times with no issues, I've worn the finish off on my previous ones but they still keep going. The 10 tap programming lets me set the light to low-med-high, which is perfect for my line of work. Low is bright without being overpowering when working inside machines, and bright is enough to see what's in the woods behind my house from my back porch (a few hundred feet away). I've got quite a few battery packs and usb solar panels, so I'll always be able to recharge the flashlight, power or no power, and the ability to take 18650 and CR123 batteries means this light will never be dead. Having said that, I can go 2 or more months without having to recharge it since I use the low setting 95% of the time. Unless Streamlight comes out with something better, if I lose this light I'll just buy another just like it. The only improvement I can think of, is if they added a quickcharge 3.0 ability to reduce the charging time.

This flashlight is The Truth! All of the comments that you’re reading about the light not working after a few uses and the full charge indicator not working ARE USER ERRORS! I experienced the same exact issues as some of the previous reviewers but unlike those persons who thought, oh my gosh, my $100 buck flashlight doesn’t work and is a piece of garbage, I checked all of the loose ends to ensure that the cap was screwed on tightly and what do ya know, THE LIGHT WORKED AND STAYED ON! In regard to the light not turning green to indicate a full charge, I Guarantee you that the people complaining about the full charge indicator not coming on didn’t read the instructions and instead charged the flashlight using an adapter of some type instead of the usb connector. I did the exact same thing and received a constant red light but as soon as I followed the Instructions and placed the flashlight on a usb cable only, The Light Turned Green! This is a great flashlight and it’s already proven it’s worth. I was in the middle of a power outage last night while visiting my family and using this flashlight, I was able to light up their entire front room long enough to repair their generator and get the house lights back on. I have Zero complaints about this light. Just follow the instructions and illuminate the world!

Just received two as ordered. Ten tap programming works as advertised. Devices seem very solid. Comes packaged with rechargeable proprietary battery -- very easy to recharge with packaged micro USB cable. Super bright.
