Actual speed test results
These were extremely simple to set up. They worked right out of the box. I logged into its web interface to fiddle with its settings for fun but there was nothing that needed changing. *Actual speed test results* All of these tests are in a structure that uses metal-shielded electrical conduit. Unshielded cables will be slower. The two devices plugged into the same 6-plug power strip: 253-270 Mbps Different outlets, same circuit: 164-167 Mbps Different circuits, same phase, same breaker panel: 110-113 Mbps. This is the best case for most houses. Different circuits, different phases, same breaker panel: 53-65 Mbps. This is the worst case for most houses. Completely different electric meter within same apartment building, GFI outlet, phase unknown: 35-38 Mbps. Ping time with this setup is mostly 1-2ms with occasional pings at 5-9ms. Completely different electric meter within same apartment building, one side through an intermediate circuit breaker panel (so through 3 circuit breaker panels and 2 electric meters): 16-22 Mbps one phase, 9-21 Mbps other phase. Ping time with this setup is mostly 2ms with occasional pings at 4-5ms. Note that when running a test and clogging the pipe with data, ping time goes up to 175ms (Wifi does this too though not this extreme). No packets lost throughout any of these tests. So in summary, this device is awesome. The only situation when a WiFi bridge would be a better option would be if you are trying to share Internet between apartments that are right next to each other.

Installer changed mind and no longer wanted this part.
Returned. Installer unable to work with existing wiring. Unrelated to performance of this adapter.

Good product
The signal amplifiers work just fine - I have TV and streaming via internet so need a strong signal throughout the house

Works OK
I only get about 10Mbps throughput, which is better than my old TrendNet getting about 4Mbps. However I am not getting the 40Mbps as advertised. Tech Support said it was due to the wiring in my house. One nice feature is that there is an option for secure transmission between the two devices. I still give it a thumbs up as I did not have to run cables and it works better than my wi-fi range extender. I also have the option of adding a few more to expand the network into other rooms.

PG-9172PT-KIT is Trash
Note that Amazon combines all the product reviews for totally unrelated products all together. This review is specifically for the PG-9172PT-KIT. I have 6 of the other products, namely PG-9172 and PG-9172PoE. These were purchased about 1.5 years ago for my "electrically challenged" small home. Note that I had to ditch all my previous Powerline AV adapters as they do not play well with homes with arc fault interrupter circuit breakers. My previous 6 have worked flawlessly. I decided to get the PT = pass through version so I could recover badly needed outlets. Well, one in the kit was dead and would not get a powerline connection of any kind (LED off). This is although I could connect to it and configure it to connect securely to my other devices. This and the newer Wave 2 variants are trash. First off, the factory reset (hold button for more than 10 seconds) does not work. It is a serious but and a pain to dig out a USB Ethernet dongle to your laptop and change your network settings to talk to the device only to not have it work. This "newer" products are also missing the reset button of 5-10 seconds which clears it's pairing/security so that you can pair them using the buttons. Anyway, a whole afternoon wasted. I could get one to work. One was DOA. And, then I was faced with the problem if it ever flakes out (like the Wave 2 products) that there is no way to access it nor to physically reset it to factory configuration with even a known IP. Comtrend has gone down the toilet with any of the newer devices. There is also no newer firmware available on their website. The manual is 2017, so I have no hope that they will fix this product or their junk Wave 2 products.

you need two of this buy the kit instead
do not buy PG-9172pt because you need two of them instead buy the kit that has both of them and it is 15 dollars cheaper

Really great so far - 4 months in
Easy to start up and running good so far! Two floors up and opposite end of house and still works well. Oct 16 update: was worried about longevity but no problems so far. Still working like a champ!

They really work
I was afraid that these were some sort of weird, cheap As-Seen-On-TV thing, but they are totally legit, totally work, and are totally fast. Obviously you have to get at least two of them. These devices freed me from running cable all through my apartment and allowed me the high speed connection of a wired internet connection everywhere in my place. The outlets do not have to be on the same circuit. Love it!
