Love Lupin and FINALLY an English translation for a collection of Lupin's twisted, witty charms!
Love Lupin.Who does NOT love a classy, civilized, well-mannered, witty and charming French gentleman with a boy-ish twist of character?I have looked for Lupin books since I was 12 and they were pretty hard to find then, and now there are about 13 stories in one book!He is THE classic gentleman thief. The inspiration to so many popular culture gentleman art/jewel/almost-about-anything thieves, it is rather a wonder that most Americans do not know about him. He inspired so many pop culture characters throughout the world in movies, tv series, other books and even anime. It IS an old book, a classic of sorts, but that makes it even more delicious. This is not a serious-type book but more of a puzzle, game-sort. So book-lovers and non-lovers alike can love Arsene Lupin. For both children and adults, this book canNOT be left out of any collection of books!

If you like old fashioned stories with lots of plot twists with a legendary anti-hero this is a book for you. Short stories that link characters and plots to individual stories. Somewhat like Sherlock Holmes but from the other side of the law.

Not even close to the feel of the Netflix series but just as good
I enjoyed the Netflix series and was curious about the original stories. They're vastly different in tone (as well as being set in different times). The TV series is more suspenseful and you are on the edge of our seat wondering how Lupin will get away. The stories in this book aren't suspenseful and don't go much into the minute details of how he does it. These stories are more about Lupin the character and how he pretty much gloats over his triumphs. He's super confident which sounds like it'd be annoying but isn't, they're fun to read and full of details about the age in which they're set.

The book was much, much better than I was expecting. I'm fortunate to have experienced the stories within these pages.

My book is used not new :(
Despite the fact that I bought this book for $17 with the assumption that it was new, there are many signs of water and tear. While I love the book, the copy I bought has been bent, there are scratches on the cover and some of the pages are dirty. I don’t really care about this kind of thing, but I know some people get iffy about it. So beware.

A great read! I was introduced to this book by a special offer, and am very happy I was. A quick read with a well-defined plot and many interesting characters to follow. I will be looking for other books by this author and about this Gentleman Thief!

Belle Epoch Comes Alive
I bought this book on the recommendation of my French wife who knows I love Sherlock Holmes. She read it as a teenager in French. I love the Penguin translation. Although Lupin is often compared to Holmes (Leblanc did that himself), he is really a character all to himself, delighting in his cunning as Holmes did but exercising it on the other side of the law. The stories, or multiple épisodes, capture turn-of-the-century France in a style that is highly readable and evocative for a Francophile. I've enjoyed reading it slowly and recommend it to others as it was offered to me.
