Very happy with this! Was using an "old school" third-hand (couple of flex arms and an adjustable magnifying glass) and it was fairly small with limited arm reach as well as the arms being controlled via wing nuts. A friend got this one and showed it off to me as he liked it so much. Got one after that and really like it. The arms are substantial and stiff enough for holding/managing larger and heavier items than what I was using. Also like that it comes with 4 arms (the version I ordered) and you can get more. The clips are a nice size and have thick protectors so they grip board and such well. Has nice weight so it does not shift around or have any possibility of tipping. The arm bases are magnetic to they not only stay in place when you use them but my work bench has a steel frame so I can use it with that as well (nice plus).

I've tried many different versions of 'Helping Hands' over the years and this is definitely my favorite! The base is very heavy and solid. The rubber feet hold on really well, so there is no sliding around, which is nice. The arms are all metal, and they are quite flexible with very strong magnets that hold onto the steel base extremely well. A great touch from Kotto that I really like is they include two extra alligator clips, and two extra rubber feet. The only slight issue I do have is that the alligator clips have threads on them to attach them to the arms, so you can't spin just the alligator clip to align with whatever you're soldering, you have to spin the entire arm instead. It's a slight issue but not enough to knock it down to four stars. Overall, I really like this product and it is well worth the price. I WOULD recommend these helping hands.

I like this a lot, but the arms are a bit stiff and don't really stay in the position you put them in. I love the base plate, and the magnets are very strong. When you place an arm somewhere on the plate it stays there really well, but the arms don't stay bent the way you'd want them. I've also had a few issues with the clips falling out, and one of the clip protectors melted while I was soldering (never had that happen before). I might just buy new arms, but keep the plate. Also it's a really nice yellow :)

I'm a product photographer and this is so helpful in holding things in place for me to photograph. It's easy to make products look like they're floating or standing up. I've attached an image I took of some jewelry. You'll see that the bracelet looks like it's standing up on its edge. I attached a clear nylon string to the bracelet and then used one of the arms from this Third Hand Soldering Tool to suspend it. Each arm has a magnet on the bottom, so if you're using a metal table, like I was, you can just stick the arm to the table. Great quality, super solid materials and a great value for the money.

I bought this to assist working on model aeroplanes. I build mostly WWI. This is a soldering tool, but it serves well while rigging biplanes or attaching small parts or subassemblies. I cannot think of anything bad to say about it. If it gets fatigued, it hasn’t said anything to me. The heavy metal plate stabilizes my work . The heavy duty magnets anchor the flexible arms. I wish I had found this sooner. Highly recommended!

I bought this for several reasons, including soldering. But I use it the most for evaluating vintage/antique jewelry and gemstones. I can hold a ring at any angle with the helping hands, which leaves both of my hands free to manipulate special lights and loupe. The table is heavy. The magnets firmly hold the arms steady and in place.

I couldn't do scale modeling without this. Hold parts for painting and assembly. Works like a charm!

Why did I wait so long to buy this? If you do a lot of soldering,crafting, anything you could use another hand for this is great. The base is nice and heavy so it stays put and the arms are nice and strong. Another great feature is that since the arms are magnetic you can use the while working on your vehicle because they will hold to any metal surface. Super handy while soldering lights etc. Excellent Product!!
