Follistatin is a glycoprotein which was first identified as a follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) inhibiting substance in ovarian follicular fluid. Follistatin is a secreted protein that bind to ligands of the TGF-beta family and regulates there activity by inhibiting there access to signalling receptors. The TGF beta family comprises of BMP-2, -4, -6, -7, myostatin, GDF-11, and TGF-beta 1.
