Are humans still subject to the forces of evolution? An evolutionary biologist provides surprising insights into the future of Homo sapiens In this intriguing book, evolutionary biologist Scott Solomon draws on the explosion of discoveries in recent years to examine the future evolution of our species. Combining knowledge of our past with current trends, Solomon offers convincing evidence that evolutionary forces still affect us today. But how will modernization—including longer lifespans, changing diets, global travel, and widespread use of medicine and contraceptives—affect our evolutionary future? Solomon presents an entertaining and accessible review of the latest research on human evolution in modern times, drawing on fields from genomics to medicine and the study of our microbiome. Surprising insights, on topics ranging from the rise of online dating and Cesarean sections to the spread of diseases such as HIV and Ebola, suggest that we are entering a new phase in human evolutionary history—one that makes the future less predictable and more interesting than ever before. Review: Well cited and easy to read! - I am hugely interested in evolutionary genetics, plus the psychodynamics that contribute to evolution on micro- and macro-levels. I am flying through this easy to comprehend book, finding the authors well-researched case studies fascinating. Interestingly, I found this book when I needed a quote about how females select mates who may inadvertently contribute to sexism or gender issues. When I read the title of the book after citation, I immediately knew I had to read the whole thing due to my interest in genetics. I am about 3/4 of the way through and cannot give this book enough praise! As the research of evolutionary genetics, pertaining to future humans, seems to be quite sparse, I highly recommend this to all readers interested in this particular topic. Review: Get past the first chapter and it gets good. - One you get past the first chapter its a really interesting book looking at the current state of evolutionary research. Fascinating
