First Alert 2013F Water and Fire Protector File Chest, 0.17 Cubic Feet

This fireproof safe box is larger than I expected. Compact, but holds things I need kept safe from a fire (or water). It feels durable and heavy. Easy to open and close with the key. Really like this item as if fits my needs exactly.

I only looked at exterior dimensions thus the safe will not hold what I need it to. Seller was great, no hassle returns. Great experience.

For 20 bucks I had no idea I would be getting such a quality chest , its heavy and very well made with what seems to be a secure locking system. It is smaller then I imagined 0.17 cubic feet but that's my fault for not looking closely at the specs. but for jewelry and cash and a few important papers it will work fine. The information provided states all contents should be in sealed containers and the chest should be opened every two weeks and allowed to air out for a minimum of 20 minutes. I never thought about the fact that this chest is fireproof and waterproof and would need to be aired out on a regular basis. What I would have liked is a chest to lock up and forget about until I needed some of the contents ,the airing out sounds like a pain that I will forget to do. That having been said I'm going to keep this chest because for what I paid for it I'm not going to send it back , and I will put it to some use.

No joke, if you can swing this thing, I would imagine it would be as effective as a baseball bat, in defending one's self. All kidding aside, we bought this to put important documents in. I also like to hide some cash in it too. I can't say I'm going to throw it in water or set it on fire to test it, but the walls of this chest, do feel like they are protective.One note of advice, if you're coming from another brand of these chests, be sure to check the weight of this one. I originally bought this for my elderly mom. She had one of the other brands, believe Sentry. She had a hot water heater to bust in her apartment and wanted a waterproof chest in case she had any future problems with water. When this arrived, she couldn't lift it, at least not to open it and remove anything in it with any confidence since it's quite heavy. I weighed them, this First Alert is 7 pounds heavier than the one she had, which she also struggles to hold for very long. She re-gifted it to me. If nothing else, it's a good, piece of mind, piece of protection.

The safe remains waterproof for under an hour with the caveat to put docs in a sealed plastic bag! The lock is very flimsy and easy to break. So disappointed. One is given 2 keys with purchase. The keys have a plastic top, which melted in a recent heat wave. What a waste of money and I missed the return window buying this piece of junk.

I read all the reviews on several different waterproof safes and in March purchased this one, along with silica drying packets. Upon arrival, I found the interior to be much larger than expected. I put all my documents into gallon ziploc bags with 2 silica packets in each bag. I put jewelry in another bag with more silica packets. I placed 2 flash drives and some discs in another bag with the last of the silica packets. I've had to go into the safe 4 or 5 times since and there is no sign of mold and no damp smells. I feel confident that my important papers and jewelry will be protected in case of flood or fire. In fact, I feel so confident that I am purchasing 3 more safes (and more silica packets) to give as holiday gifts for my brothers.

Nice size to store and easy to use and the price is very affordable

The size is just right, the lock simple and secure, and it is quite roomy for a basic fire chest everyone should have.I was attracted with the fireproof temp max it can resist! Got 3 and they were well appreciated as gifts too!
