I prefer Audio books I fine it makes the Story More *interesting and Exciting* Especially when *Susan Ericksen* is the Reader She Does an Outstanding Job with the Voices! and she draws you right in to the Story you feel all the emotions anger,happiness. sadness, in the characters and all of the LOVE between Eve and Roarke when she's reading. All of my Books are on CD. and all *Unabridged*, I rarely Buy any Abridged Versions Unless it Doesn't come in a unabridged version and i really want to read it. (Listen to it) there are other Very Good Reader's that I like Very much....But Susan is one of my Favorites!! Roarke wants to have a Big Thanksgiving Dinner and invite his family from Ireland to New york for the Holiday Eve invites Peabody & McNab but their going to her familiy's for dinner. Eve's Not to Sure how She is going to deal with them Coming, not having family of her own it makes her feel really uncomfortable....

I really enjoy this "In Death" series by J D Robb. I realized at some point I had not read them all, or read them in order. So I've been ordering the ones I don't have little by little and look forward to reading them all. I like the characters, the mysteries, and the author's writing style. Each book will stand on it's own, but if you can, read them all. Highly recommended.

4.5 stars! After basically years of seeing this series around and reading about this mystical Roarke, I gave in and decided to read the In Death Books. It was quite an undertaking, since when I started there were 33 books already released in the series, not counting short stories and novellas. Besides that, deciding to read this series was a big commitment in two fronts. One, I simply had to by 33 books and secondly, I would not be reading anything else until I was done. That's how psychotic I can be when it comes to book series. December 2011 was when my journey began and by February 2012 I was done and now there is NO turning back. I am IN LOVE with this series! I not only obviously love Roarke, but I love Eve and all the secondary characters that make up this great story as well. Yes, I have become irritated with Eve at times, but I adored being able to see her grow throughout the series. It has been quite a ride, but one I will never regret hopping aboard. This series is a great mix of mystery, police drama and romance. I love every aspect of it, from the near futuristic setting, to the way J.D. Robb writes her prose. If there is one thing that bothers me, is that considering the series has 35 books published, the span of time that has passed is very short and I wish the lapse between books was a bit longer. But if you read the books throughout a longer period of time, it won't really matter, but reading them so close together made me wish for that longer lapse. Eve is such a complex character. All that she has been through has made who she is, but her story is not less heartbreaking because of it. For that matter, so is Roarke's and the fact that these two found each other is nothing less than serendipity. They need each other and I am sure they would never have grown to be who they are in the series by book 35, if not for each other's presence in their lives. Not to mention the "family" they have built with their dear friends. One of the biggest issues brought up in this series by J.D. Robb, is the Nature Vs. Nurture debate. I love it! It always makes me think and it is very satisfying to see these people that could have become something very wrong, rise above nature and blood, to become amazing people. On the crime fighting aspect of the series, I find that Robb uses two types of narrative. Sometimes she carries more of a "Monk" style, where the perpetrator is clear if not early on, but soon. The other one is where we get a punch in the face when we finally find out out who it is. I really enjoy that she doesn't have only one style, since that always keeps me guessing =D I LOVE this series and if you have yet to check it out, please do so! The first few books might not compel you completely, but keep reading! You won't regret it!

If Nora Roberts were writing this book to earn her doctorate in her field, then she would definitely score with this book. It is the absolute best she has ever written. Gone are the ridiculous dialogs between Peabody and MC Nab, and various other referents like Feeney rattling candy nuts in a bag stuffed in his pockets, and she has tightened up a lot of the other irritating stuff like Nadine bugging Eve and, THANKFULLY, she has wisely chosen that "less is more" of Mavis and her over the top screeching, especially where her cutesy dialogs around her bulging belly are given short shrift in this story. She has also given Eve more mastery over her nightmares so we aren't subjected to a rerun every story as in ALL of her prior "In Death" series. It is difficult to imagine Louise, a strong physician with moral and ethical integrity in the sack with that creepy, sleeze Charles. YUK! It is a bad image to hold in one's head while reading. I love the adult level of communication between Roarke and Eve. They have grown up at last. And the snarly, snarky argument between Eve at the crime site in N.H. with the formerly limp and unappealing Dr. Mira kicks it up a notch in firepower. Both ladies were given a pair of steel b*llz in this book and I loved the biting p*ssing contest between them when they faced off over Mira's unprofessional emotionality due to her former adulation of the plastic surgeon who is the mass murderer in the story. The topic of future science and the manipulation of DNA, and sculpting perfect humans in the future is very appealing to a very imperfect person such as myself; albeit people who are religious will find reason to screech about moral issues here. In reality, by the time our current society catches up to the fictional one described here the socio-political-morality debates will have long been resolved. So I think that Nora Roberts, who is clearly in the forefront of the pack of fiction writers, was extraordinarily brave in hanging it all out in a popular vehicle for all to view. Bravo Nora! Most of all, I think the author is absolutely at the top of her game now. Her interpersonal dialogs tight and meaningful and mostly free of filler and fluff. This story shows a brand new Nora, a refinement of the Nora we have known for years. Origin in Death shows clear mastery of her art that is sharp, concise and outright brilliant. I hope she uses this new and vastly improved voice in all of her other writings, both in the romance genre as well as the sci-fi and crime dramas. I am lovin' it.

Robb pens another unputdownable story in Origin In Death. When the Drs. Icove Sr. and Jr. are killed, it's up to NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas to figure who could have wanted such pillars of medicine dead. As Dallas digs into the doctor's lives and medical practices, she is unprepared for what she finds.... OMGoodness!! So many twists and turns and unexpected happenings!!! I was glued to the pages and couldn't put this book down until I was done. One of my favorite series.

Very good mystery book I read quite a few of them there a really good read. It was worth getting.

With this series set in the future, J.D. Robb is able to weave in some speculative sci fi themes which works really well in this episode. When Dr Wilfred B. Icove, a renowned pioneer of modern reconstructive and cosmetic surgery is found dead in his office with a very precise stab to his aorta, Lt Eve Dallas is very impressed at the blatancy of the killer, a calm, attractive young woman but wonders what Dr Icove could have done to have driven her to murder. Delving in to what Dr Icove did in his free time when not seeing patients at the Clinic Eve discovers a shocking research program that he has kept hidden for decades. The books in this series are such fun to read. As well as an excellent murder mystery, there is the banter between Peabody and Eve to enjoy, the other colourful characters of Eve's police family and at the centre her relationship with Roarke. Roarke's newly discovered extensive Irish family arrive en masse for Thanksgiving towards the end of the book, but as the book finished the day before Thanksgiving, I was disappointed at not seeing Eve trying to cope with dinner with Roarke's noisy family, but maybe that enjoyment has been postponed for the start of the next book.

The in death series is a great read

Something about this book is off-kilter. The characters aren't convincing: stilted. Not rheir usual selves. Eve here is grossly irritating. How many times can one use "blah, blah, blah" in one book. And nobody could believe Roarke would say it. Again, this book is not the usual 'in death' quality

This series of in death books catch your attention from the very beginning I’ve been reading them since number 1 & now it’s 50 plus i now buy I books as my shelves are full
