. Review: Great show with 2 very iconic Guest Stars!!! - Missing a few hits like Spirits Having Flown, Juliet, Country Woman, Another Lonely Night in New York, I.O.I.O, and Paying The Price Of Love but still had a lot of great songs and to be fair It would have been another 40 minutes longer! But covering their entire career in that length of time (1960's to 1997) was still quite a show!! It was also wonderful that Olivia Newton John herself (one of my all-time favorite female singers) got to sit in the first row to see them! And Celine Dion (at the prime of her singing career) also got to sing a song with them at their final concert together!! Review: Really Enjoyable! - I was surprised how much my wife and I loved this concert from 1997! It wasn't just hearing the old familiar hits that got to me, it was the quality and sheer quantity of their work. Even with 30 songs exhibited, I felt there were several others that I would have liked to hear also. The Bee Gees polish and talent is obvious from this performance. I had previously thought of them as typical of vocalists with lots studio musicians to fill in their limitations. Not so. It was clear that Barry Gibb had as much command over his guitar as he did his voice (and hair). Even more surprising to me was that Maurice Gibb was a multi-instrumentalist and band-leader (on stage at least). I usually comment on the audio and video quality of any concert disc since they can vary widely and even ruin the enjoyment of an otherwise great performance. In this case I was so captivated by the music and performance that my internal audio/video critic barely paid attention. But I can say that they were both good quality, as you might expect a concert and taping at the MGM in Las Vegas would be. A few final comments: - Even with a 143 minute run time, many of the songs are arranged into medleys, leaving me feeling cheated out of hearing the complete songs. - they had a fairly small backup band considering the stature of the Bee Gees. But perhaps this was understandable since this was part of a world tour, not a “one night only” performance. - if you are just considering whether to buy this performance or not, I encourage you to read some of the good reviews here. - regarding the DVD vs. blu-ray debate, I bought the DVD after reading more than one comment that the Blu-ray is not high-def, just upscaled to 16:9 aspect, thereby losing video content and resolution. Also, the BD audio is not much improved over the DVD, if at all (both DTS?). - consider buying a used DVD at half the cost of a new one and one quarter the cost of the Blu-ray. - based on the reviews, this disc is much better than the "One for All Tour" disc from 1989. In summary, this may not produce many new BGs fans, but it is a fun reminder that the Bee Gees were fine song-writers and musicians. Highly recommended.

Much better sounding
Originally the Bee Gees 4 disc booklet anthology was purchased. The audio lacked depth and it was tinny sounding so it was returned with no problem. I had seen several clips of the Bee Gees-One night only and thought I would try again. This Dvd did not disappoint. Musical sound was good, audio voices were good and totally enjoyed it. They did a few songs totally but others were only snippets but even at that I would recommend this Dvd.

This is a good live show
If you've enjoyed music by the Bee Gees, this concert is for you. They play live versions of their greatest hits which is enjoyable even through repeated viewing.

Great Concert as always, but Blu-Ray imaging is sub-par.
As someone who owned the original "One Night Only" DVD 10 years ago, it was only natural to want to upgrade to the Blu-Ray. The program itself of course is great and timeless. But for anyone expecting the usual jump in image quality from DVD to Blu-Ray, it will be a huge disappointment. This is simply a mediocre quality transfer of a DVD quality Standard Definition image to Blu-Ray with no upgrade in resolution. In fact depending on your television and Blu-Ray player, it may actually look inferior to what you saw on the original DVD on a Standard Definition television. Apparently this was originally taped with Standard Definition in mind with resolution in the 500 line ballpark. Too bad it wasn't filmed rather than taped, then we really could have had a high quality upgrade from the original DVD. No to discourage anyone from buying this, it's a great concert, but just don't expect the jump in image quality that normally comes from moving from DVD to Blu-Ray!

Best of the Bee Gees!
We saw this fantastic performance on our local PBS station and recorded it, occasionally playing it for a little dancing and memories of our disco days. But, the recording will expire soon. It may never be available again, so where do we go? Amazon! Now, we will have these great songs and live performance forever.

There has been a few comments about why this show has been released on Blu Ray in an 'SD upscale' rather than the normal hi-definition we all come to expect and I spent a little time trying to find out if the show was actually filmed (on film stock) as opposed to video. Couldn't find anything definitive and an email to Eagle Rock was unanswered. They do actually state the show was 'filmed' but, of course, this can be used a generic term rather than indicating film cameras were used. In any event we have what we have and upon viewing I am more than happy with the results. On a very large plasma the close up shots look very good and it is only when long crowd or group shots are used the fact you are watching an standard definition release is apparent. The colours are nothing special but, considering the SD source, we have the best we are going to get (the credits mention video operatives etc., too). Sound on the other hand is superb with a DTS HD audio surround track and it sounds fantastic. As for the show itself I can't think of a better liver performance from the band that is available. They have a set that covers so many hits it spans 2 hours 20 minutes with all of the hits I can think of. Some special guests too! A few extras (alternative songs from different shows and an interview) and this ends up as an excellent release and one that will be played a lot! For fans and those with just a casual interest in the Bee Gees this is highly recommended. Update: I have compared the Blu Ray to the Region 1 (USA) DVD version I own and the picture quality offers marginal improvements - you have to look hard to find any! If anything you can tell there has been some effort to boost sharpness as you can see the edge enhancement on occasion - like a halo effect - on things like microphone stands. Essentially though both DVD and Blu Ray are fine but you need to consider that this is a standard definition source - you will not see the usual HD improvement from Blu Ray. The sound is also fine on the DVD with a DD 5.1 mix but has a bit more punch through the lossless audio track. No extras on the DVD unlike the Blu Ray. For me though one of the huge benefits is the pop up menu on the BR which is great considering how many tracks there are on the disc - with BR you can find the track easily and go straight there, much harder on DVD. Considering the low price I still feel the BR is a good upgrade. Update 2: The extras contain a few tracks that seem to have been recorded from one of those ITV shows 'An Audience with' - half of the cast of Eastenders are the 'celebs' visible!

Fan, was willst Du mehr?!
