Organic Chemistry 4th Edition

I'm not a chemist, or chemistry major, so I didn't understand a thing about organic chemistry until I bought this text book. As someone who barely squeaked by Gen Chem, this book did wonders for my comprehension of the material. The first two chapters briefly explain Gen Chem, so you can refresh your brain, and the rest of the book does a chapter by chapter explanation of the material. The pictures are clear as well as the mechanism diagrams. I got A's in both my Org Chem classes using this book,and I highly recommend it for anyone confused on the subject. Even if it's not your assigned text book, use this anyway, it's much clearer than other textbooks. Also, I highly recommend getting the answer book and using it to study. The best way to understand the materials is to work the problems, and you can only find the answers in the other book.

Well written, and still applicable to current classes. Every text explains the same phenomena or process but in a myriad of ways. Having older text books to work through before taking a class is a good way to gain an overall picture of the subject and also useful as a secondary source of practice and sometimes clarification. Having both the text and the solutions manual have helped tremendously in earning higher grades.

Best organic chemistry book. It's well written and student friendly. However, this book usually works best with the solutions manual and is really expensive. She wrote this book for students and it's clearly organized and well written. I dreaded ORGo and failed it in college but upon retaking it, this book was my second teacher.

I am finding it helpful as a required text for my Organic Chemistry course as General Chemistry courses were several years ago.

This version only differs from the current version by the end of chapter questions. The text is exactly the same! So if you don't need the current questions, buy this older version for much cheaper! It's a massively heavy book, but that's expected from a hardcover organic chemistry textbook.

As other reviewers may have pointed out, there are no answers to ANY of the practice problems unless you fork over more money for a solutions manual. Organic chemistry is stressful enough, and tackeling it with only half a textbook does not make things any easier. I truly hope there is a special place in hell for these textbook publishers, the writers, and any professors who know this text is incomplete and choose this text for their class anyway. Greed is killing education in America....
