Pelican 1510 Case With Foam (Desert Tan)

I had been keeping an eye out for a new camera case after my Canon Camera backpack started to fray along the zipper. Over the 2014 Christmas holidays, I saw this on an Amazon Lightning Deal for $109.99. I did some research and decided to give it a go. What attracted me to this case was that it fits in a standard overhead commercial airline compartment. I live in Hawaii and my family frequently travels with camera gear to catch our two year old doing something cute. The case has more room than it looks. I managed to fit the following items with ease: - Canon EOS 5D Mark II Camera Body - Canon 17-40mm Lens - Canon 85mm Lens - Canon 50mm Lens - Canon 35mm Lens - iPad Air 2 (fit vertically) - Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT - Cables, filters, chargers, batteries As you can see from the photo, there still remains room for more. The case has four layers of foam. The lid has a textured foam insert that can be removed and replaced with other inserts sold by third parties, such as zippered pouches. The middle two layers are Pelican's Pick N Pluck foam. It was relatively easy to pluck. I ended up saving the loose pieces in my old Canon backpack because I think the larger pieces can be reused. It's also a fun toy for the two-year old. The bottom layer of foam doesn't cover the wheel and handle wells, so be sure not to put anything too deep on the corners. I tried to keep a two-wide gap between all the openings. The foam does flex a bit once filled, not a problem. I am accustomed to seeing Pelican cases used in the Electric Utility Industry, so it certainly gives me piece of mind that my camera equipment is well protected against shock and moisture. The case also comes with two reinforced pad lock points for security. All the foam could be removed to use the case as a luggage bag. Very versatile. The wheels and retractable handle are strong and durable while making this easy to transport. I wished it had connection points for backpack straps - that is available from third party vendors. Overall, I highly recommend this case. It provides lots of value for a low price and will last for many years.

Love this case. Makes carrying all of my equipment easy and keeps what I’m not using contained. It comes with three pieces of foam so if you mess up your cutouts you have two more to work with. A bit pricey, but with pelican cases you get what you pay for. The wheels and handle also makes this easy to move if I have extras with me at the ball park. I used this for another Amazon purchase. Three Mevo cameras and tripods. Would buy this again.

When you want the best, Pelican is the case to buy. I have shipped very fragile space/aerospace/aviation models in these and once you create a cradle with the pick and pluck foam that is precut so you can customize the case for absolutely anything fragile that needs absolute protection. These cases are not he cheapest but you get what you pay for and when a model costs 5k a few hundred for a case that basically guarantees the item will arrive safely no matter how you choose to ship across the world as long as you spend the time and make a perfect fitting space for the item it will get there in one piece. I have never had anything get damaged when shipping andninhave shipped some pretty fragile items in these cases. Bar none, the BEST CASE OUT THERE!

The 1510 is a fantastic case. I bought it to secure my loose electronics on a flight over the Atlantic. It's going to be a carry-on, which is great, but does come with some limitations. First is weight. This is a heavy plastic box. Really heavy. Really, really heavy. Perhaps I didn't get it across right, but this box is heavy and weighs nearly half of the carry on weight limit. I knew this in advance, but it's a concern. Dimensions aren't of concern, as they'll meet the requirements. And yes, for a carry on, this is overkill unless I want my electronics to survive a plane crash over the Atlantic. But, I bought iM2950s for checked baggage, and I really like my gear to match and I don't know when I'll need something this secure, anyway. I'm very impressed with the construction. It's not my first experience with Pelican cases, but it is the first one I've owned. There's the right amount of clasps, and they open very easily and with little force. Handles abound and there's even a very nice expanding handle for pulling it like a suitcase. The rollers are solid and roll very fluidly. Basically, you definitely get $150-200 worth of product with his case. My second concern was space. Plastic cases rarely have square edges, and Pelican is no different. The rounded edges would normally make it difficult to fit things in easily. Fortunately, the Pick and Pluck foam is great. There's four pads included, one for the top, two pluckable layers and a base pad in the bottom of the case. This base pad makes the difference as it essentially raises the floor of the case to where the rounded edges stop, giving you a nice even space to place things while padding the bottom that you would do anyway. The pick and pluck foam is great, very customizable and very firm. It will definitely hold your items secure during travel. I would have rather chosen Pelican's soon to be available luggage series, which is a lighter-weight. But the cost of those cases is more than double this one. I'll report back after my trip and update as to how the cases held up.

After my luggage that I’ve had for the last ten or so years finally bit the dust at the hands of the airlines I decided to try and find something more durable as a carry-on bag for work which led me to this bad boy. First off I travel for work no more than five or six days at a time and this more than suits my needs for five days of cloths, toiletries, and a second pair of shoes. This case more than does the job for me and the looks I get at the TSA checkpoints bring a smile to my face when asked to put it through again as if I’m hiding something in there with my weeks worth of cloths. On the plus side it doubles as a stool when seating in the terminals is scarce. I found that it fits in just about every over-head compartment from the smaller jets to the larger ones. Trick is how do you get past the gate agents when boarding without having to gate check this beast....simple solution I found is collapse the collapsible pull handle and carry it from the side somehow it magically becomes a smaller case to the gate agents and you can sneak it on without the pesky tag and gate checked luggage wait. After a few trips so far I haven’t noticed any issues other than a lacking of ground clearance with the tiny little wheels they decided to throw on there and the one time I received it after it was gate checked one of the latches decided to pop. I’m sure there are many better uses for this case from drone protection to camera or specialized equipment but hey makes one hell of a carry on for cloths, haven’t seen another traveler yet with one especially not in the desert tan color. If you need an over kill of a five to six day carry on for cloths or you need something to protect your camera gear this is the perfect sized case, not too large and heavy you regret getting it but not so small you can’t figure out how to use it. Would definitely recommend this case as far as longevity I can’t say but if it’s anything like the other pelican products I own I’m sure that I won’t be disappointed.

Great case. Worked exactly as I had expected. I purchased this case to transport a small collection of podcasting and live streaming gear to and from various tech conferences. I had no problems getting all of my gear into the case. Two layers of foam allowed me to get even more gear into the case than I had expected. The hinges and latches are very stiff - which I like. If I somehow manage to forget to latch (and use a padlock on the reinforced locking ports), then I doubt that the case would open on its own. I also like that I can order additional foam inserts for different configurations of gear. As far as travel, it's utilitarian, and tough. The wheels are protected, so they don't get beat up. The telescoping handle is much sturdier than other carry-ons - it's a sheet of plastic that slides along the bottom and is held in place by a simple plastic tab. That makes it a little heavier, but I bought this for protection, not weight. It rolls very well, and I never had any issues pulling it along through airports. It fits perfectly in the overhead bin - I'd argue that it fits better than most bags, since it's a hard shell and doesn't have any zippers or bulging pouches to get caught on the bin door or another case. If I travel without my gear, I would likely use this as my carry-on. I would absolutely recommend this for other travelers with gear they need to protect.

I work as an internationally travelling archaeologist, and I ordered this case to use as my primary checked luggage on flights. Initially I removed the foam inserts and just used the empty case as a trunk of sorts, but I have since separately ordered the inserts for the LOC "Laptop Overnight Carry" package of 1510 cases. (Ordering the case and inserts separately even saved me a few dollars.) I put all my breakables and no-fly items like my laptop, tools and field knife, along with most clothing in this case, and carry a few changes of clothes/winter wear in a smaller duffle that I use as my carry-on. This way I can be assured my checked items will arrive in one piece, and if the checked bag gets misplaced I still have my bare minimums to get by in a separate bag. This size is perfect for use as a carry-on itself, but on some international flights they will ask you to check it regardless. This case is built like a tank, and I have absolutely no qualms about having my luggage strapped to the top of a tuk-tuk during monsoon or kicked into the back of an open-bed utility truck. A typical packing list that I can fit consists of my laptop, hard drive, and accompanying cables and accessories, two pairs of Carhartt double front dungaree pants for the field, five field shirts, five pairs of hiking socks, enough boxers to see me through the trip, plus a small toiletry kit. This will work great for a one week trip, for longer adventures I pack the additional duffle. I could have purchased a larger pelican style, but my original intent was to spread the load and diversify my luggage options. This case weighs in at approx. 11 pounds, so I really have to work hard at packing it with enough stuff to put it over the 50lb excess baggage wight limit. If I manage to ever break anything on this case, Pelican has phenomenal customer support, and will usually replace most anything for free. I used quite a few luggage options before I chose to take the plunge and invest in this case, and boy do I wish I had just invested in perfection right from the start! This is a case for someone who does some serious travelling and needs luggage that can keep up with their rugged lifestyle.

I bought this case on craigslist new. It's a fantastic case, but just a couple of thoughts and tips I wish I had. 1) The wheels at the bottom protrude into the bottom layer of pick n pluck. So anything that requires two layers, I recommend putting toward the top handle end. I wish I would have put my flash at the bottom, since it only requires the top layer in depth. So my lens bottom cap rubs slightly on the plastic, I don't think it's an issue, but definitely not preferential. I put a thin layer of cut foam between the lens and the wheel. 2) Place all of your equipment on top of the foam before cutting where you want it, take your time and plan this out. Think about what items you might need in the future and plan space accordingly. 3) Use toothpicks and stick them around the equipment on top of the foam. It's in a grid, so line up the lines using that. 4) Then use a sharp knife to cut along the precut lines to each toothpick ([...]) 5) Always make holes smaller than needed and slowly remove accordingly after. 6) Then carefully reach down through the first layer to pull apart the second layer. 7) It's three layers.Two layers of pick n pluck, and one layer that's just added cushion at the bottom. 8) try leave two square layers between each item, I cut it a little close with one layer, due to trying to be ambitious getting everything in this case. It seems a bit flimsy. I'm going to try to use glue to keep it from tearing. Try to avoid that if you can. 9) If you make a mistake, it's not the end of the world, you can get replacement foam ([...]) 10) Take a few hours to do this, it took me maybe an hour and a half to get it how I like. It was actually kind of fun and very rewarding at the end. 11) Never flew with this, but apparently it's the maximum airplane carry on size. 12) It has two locking points on both sides of the handle. 13) It's a little heavy to carry around, but it rolls smoothly. Not as heavy as I expected it to be with my setup. 14) Don't make it flashy with stickers. I plan to keep it nice and black to keep it from standing out too much. If it wasn't for the wheel protruding, it would definitely be five stars. I love the case. It's a good idea for anyone with several lenses that travel or do events. I plan on bringing my photo backpack (Lowepro 22L Hatchback Backpack) and leaving the case in the car, swapping out lenses when needed.

Case is very well constructed and built to last. The foam was easy to configure but in retrospect, it might have been wiser to have gotten the padded dividers so reconfiguration is possible. It's possible to retrofit with dividers so nothing lost in getting this. Camera and lenses now have a safe and secure place.

We use these cases to transport our emergency services drones. They're first class.

Funciona perfecto, resistente

Finally got my Pelican case and it is awesome for my work tools. Very handy and easy to carry and it meets airport and airline dimensions for both hand carry and checked-in size. I am sure this will last for years of travel and rugged use.
