I high pressured the carpet off in tandem with a paint scraper. Then I used lacquer thinner again in tandem with a 4 1/2 inch electric horizontal grinder with a..... "SOFT "..... wire brush to get the glue and brought the aluminum to bright. . I cleaned up the loose glue as I went .Then I high pressured the complete job with soapy water . Then fresh water. Then I wiped everything with acetone . Then pressure washed again with fresh water . Drip dried. Then primed with Total Boat PRIMER (Premium Marine Primer...says it on the can) . 8 inch short nap roller. I let it dry well. Then painted with Total Boat deck paint. 2 coats. I've been doing alot of walking /working on my boat. Dragging things across it hoping I don't mess up the paint job. This paint is tuff. The non-skid stuff in it is great. If I did this for a living I would use this paint as my "go to" for deck painting. **Q: Can I use this over a marine gloss polyurethene finish. Wil it adhere okay?** A: You would have to scuff the surface first. I imagine with 150 to 180 grit sandpaper. You could even use a DA sander just enough to remove the gloss. Total tread itself needs to be sanded between coats.
