Once you start playing a recorded show from your list, how do you turn it off? There is no stop button on this remote.

I either use the pause or when you exit it stops or if you choose another recording or channel it stops and when you choose that recording again you can pick up there or at the beginning

Is there a way to scroll through the guide a "page" (jump 7 channels each click) at a time rather than each channel one by one?

Use the page up and down button should allow you to jump a page at a time.

why no red, green, yellow, blue buttons

Really no need for them. Buttons do multiple things in different screens. They reprogrammed the remotes. Hard to explain, it's there just "hidden" behind another button. Worst case scenario, you can still go with a rf remote(the old ones) and set up as Ed instead of iR. Then you'll have your beloved buttons.

is the remote backlit

Mine is not. For the price I can turn on a light or use a small red flashlight to see the remote in the dark.
