Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite2 USB (Black)

Programmer by trade so I spend a lot of time at the keyboard. The keyboard has the best action of any keyboard that I've had in the last 25 years. The keys are regular sized and spaced out nicely. Touch typing is very easy with this keyboard. I enjoy the small footprint and it allows me to center the keyboard directly in front of the monitor. Having to hold the function key for the f keys and backspace does take a bit to get use to. Keyboard has nice weight to it and is not flimsy.

Do not listen to those people that say that this keyboard is not worth the price, what you are paying for is the for the 'UNIX' layout which PFU (the company that made the Happy Hacking Keyboard series) based off of the Sun Type 3 keyboard around the 80's - 90's. This is the only membrane keyboard in existence to ever have this layout which is what makes it unique. It has all the functionality of a full keyboard in a smaller form factor.Most people say they can't get used to it is only because they have a small brain and can never adjust to anything new. As a result, they stick to using the typical inferior typewriter based keyboard with a stupidly large backspace placed further away, cluttered bottom row, and a CAPS LOCK key which in this day and age DOES NOT DESERVE ITS OWN DEDICATED KEY, placing it on a different layer such as what this HHKB did is much more simpler and better design for such an obsolete key. The Control key now replaces where the Caps Lock used to be. From what I know, this company (PFU) is the only currently in production company that produces this sort of keyboard layout. I currently own this and the more expensive HHKB Pro 2 version that I rotate between.Also, another thing about the the keyboard I'd like to mention is that the keycap profile design is really nice, they are nice and fairly tall like from older IBM mechanical keyboards, unlike the cheap flat corner cutting designs on modern membrane keyboards. Though it is worth noting that this particular Lite2 model was introduced in 2001 so standards back then were not to fully cheap out on design but rather more on being more robust. The case is nice and thick 2-piece plastic, compared to what you would see on a membrane keyboard today which would be flat and flimsy, something you would throw away in a few months.All in all, it is definitely the best membrane keyboard in existence, mostly due to the 'UNIX' layout and the thick plastic design. I ended up modifying (remove) one of the USB ports on mine to a female USB-Mini connector so I can my own detachable cable on mine. Though it involves removing the stock fixed cable and some wire soldering. I think it ended up looking pretty nice though its mostly because of my choice of the cable :)

A nice space-saver or travel keyboard that I use as my IT travel keyboard for maintaining servers, laptops and desktops. It's a membrane keyboard that for some reason provides a better feel when typing than a typical membrane-based keyboard. I used to have the Pro version which is a significantly better version with Topre switches and better keys, but considering the price difference the Lite2 will do quite nicely. As is the case with most products coming from Fujitsu and its divisions, this is a solid, well-built and enjoyable keyboard.

Best keyboard out there!!! If you are a geek like me and especially love the "feel" of old school keyboard with a sleek modern twist this is the keyboard for you! It's small compact and I love it. I even like the heavy feel of it too. Not thin and weak Excellent ! Excellent! Excellent!!! Worth every penny it cost!

I've owned a happy hacker keyboard since the mid-nineties. Both my wife and I love it- good tactile response, small keyboard size with full size keys, great ergonomics, hardware and software map-able keys, great for both typing and programming. When my wife needed a new keyboard, and was looking for a keyboard with good ergonomics, we tried several keyboards from the office supply stores and from Amazon, but none were as good as the HH. So, we got another one!

I owned one of these keyboards almost ten years ago and lost it in a fire.Since then, I've used various cheap keyboards that come with Dell and Gateway PC's as well as Apple's wireless bluetooth keyboard. None of them even come close to the feel of this keyboard. Like others, the only 'mod' I've made is to enable the dip switch that converts the Delete key into a BackSpace key, since I can still achieve the Delete key by hitting Fn+` which I do much much much rarer than BackSpace.It does take some getting used to, especially for the location of the CTRL key (which I believe is at the location of where it was in the very old IBM AT PC keyboards), but for me, it's a minor consideration.This keyboard works fine whether you use a Mac, Linux, or Windows, of which, I mostly use Mac and Linux and occasional Windows usage. At least, that's been my experience.I'm not a gamer, so can't comment on how well it would work for that, but for everyday typing, word processing, emailing, VIMing, it's superb.

if you are using windows and use lots of shortcut keys as you used to use with regular keyboard, skip this one. the control and shift is reversed and no separated backspace key. it does not shown in the picture of the website clearly. it looks like a mechanical keyboard, i knew it was not, but it is thick for NOT a mechanical keyboard. very compact but very thick.

I like this keyboard so much I've had two so far. The only problem I've had is that I've worn off some of the key lettering.I love it, and am very happy!As it has less keys, it takes less deskspace, so I have more deskspace to do something desky--such as writing on a piece of paper. Further, the distance between my right hand and my micro sized mouse is much less so I don't have to move my arm as much. Who needs the numeric keypad anyway?--it just increases the distance between your right hand home row position and the mouse. Very happy!

I am over the moon with this compact keyboard. High quality with superb, crisp action of the keys. The fold out feet provide me with the perfect typing angle. I even appreciated the minimal and yet perfectly secure, waterproof packaging.I really wish I had found this keyboard years ago.

Funciona de maravilla. es mi primer teclado mecánico y me encanta. el tamaño es bastante cómodo y la ubicación de la tecla de control es excelente. si trabajas con un editor como vim o emacs, lo recomiendo.

it uses rubber dome, but there is NO spring under the rubber dome - that is the basic difference this one and the HHKB. Anyway, it is not very bad, has arrow keys, delete/backspace can be switched by some switch, old style control position and, really small. it should be cheaper.

コンパクトで必要な機能は十全にあり、申し訳規模とはいえカーソルキーもついた HHK ファミリの末っ子は、「所詮メンブレン」などと言われていたものの、価格と機能の面で「キーボード唯一の選択肢」だったのだが、製造中止になって久しい。オークションなどで見かけると、小汚いものに定価以上の値がついていたりする。そういう状況を改善しようとしない PFU の製品展開には疑問を感じざるをえない。海外の電子部品メーカーでは、「バックオーダーが 100 以上になったら再生産する」とかの半受注生産品もあることだし、金型や製造ラインはあるのだろうから、定期的な限定生産ででも再販してほしいものだと思う。

Une fois habitué à la configuration particulière de ce clavier, la frappe est vraiment agréable et l'on récent beaucoup moins la fatigue en programmant.Les points négatifs sont qu'ils est un peu bruyant (je viens de claviers avec des touches de type ordinateur portable), et qu'il faut vraiment enfoncer les touches au font pour être sûr que l'action soit enregistrée (il m'arrive de rater beaucoup de copier-coller...)
