USB connection to pc easy as pie
USB connection to pc easy as pie. Came with 2 discs with hand-writing on them that looks like a 13 year old girl wrote it: "Region Free PC" and "Region Free Mac". Connected usb to pc and unit. Everything looks (and sounds ok) as it begins whirring. Then...nothing. I can't hear it doing anything so I open the drawer an insert the "Region Free PC" disc. It begins to whir and suddenly, my Windows 10 "Store" pops up on the monitor. Nothing else happens. If I open the unit and test a UK DVD, nothing happens. My "Devices and Printers" never shows this hardware/driver added to the pc. I've shared this w/the customer forum on the product page. If no response or no help by tomorrow, this thing goes back. I don't own a tv, so I needed something for the pc but perhaps this isn't what I thought it was.

JUST GET THE VLC PLAYER
This is basically just a low end, garden variety external DVD player. The software that comes with it is the installer for the VLC player. If your not familiar with the VLC player, it is a very popular computer media player and it's free. You can go to the VLC websiteto get it ([...]). AND I REPEAT, THE VLC SOFTWARE IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. It will remove the region restrictionon most computers using the internal drive that came with the computer. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS EXTERNAL DRIVE.I would strongly suggest that you try downloading the free VLC player before spending money on this. It may be all you need.

Solution for Euro Discs
It is good to be able to play discs from Europe. Just don't use any of the accompanying software that would set this drive to a region if you want to be able to continue to play discs from all regions. [The manufacturer corrected me on this; I was apparently mistaken and did not realize what I had done to get it rolling.]Addition 1/26/16: I briefly saw on my phone an email asking me to answer some questions about this drive. When I got to my computer to answer it I could not find the query. There were 4 questions. I think this may cover them all: I can use this region free drive on a 2015 iMac with OS10.11, on a 2007 iMac with OS10.7, and on a Lenovo B50 laptop with Windows 10. Note, a clean install of W10 does not include a DVD player. Thus I cannot play DVDs on it on Windows 10 installed in Parallels 11 on the 2015 iMac. I would need to add a Windows DVD player to that installation of Win10. Earlier version of Windows do have a Microsoft DVD player in them. I have played Region 1 (North America) and Region 2 (Europe) DVDs. I have not yet tried burning a DVD to see if it comes out Region 0, which should, I believe, play on any region DVD player. The Email asked about Japanese Region disks. I have none to try, but it should play them. The drive is powered through its USB cable. It will not work with an unpowered USB hub, but works fine with a powered DVD hub and when plugged directly into a computer. Each of the computers I have tried this on also has a DVD drive factory restricted to Region 1. Just make sure you address the correct drive if you have another drive built in or added on to your computer. I do not currently have a Linux OS installation, but I expect this drive would work with Linux OS and player software. This is more than most people would want to know, but the upshot is that the drive is very versatile. I am well pleased with it. It is a good choice as ones only drive if your computer has none built in, or to add Region Free capability if you need to play DVDs from elsewhere. 5 stars from me.

a good product. But could have been priced less!
A good product, but the instructions need to be simplified. So a non technical person like me can hook it up easily. Also it could've been packaged better and priced less for what it does. $50 + shipping. would've been more than reasonable. And sending it bubble wrapped in a mailer, is not wise either!

Don't Buy.
The installation software sent with this product looked like it was burned at home (probably pirated) and doesn't even work. Don't by this.
