I am a hospice volunteer, and most of my patients have Alzheimer's. I read this to the later stage patients. The first time I read it, other patients gathered around and sat listening. I couldn't believe it. I used to struggle to find appropriate reading material - and this is perfect. The photos keep my patients interested. For the ones who are speaking, this book had lead to dialogue and many smiles.I love this book for how much interest and joy it brings to my patients, and also the meaningful moments it has given us together. ### ⭐ Amazon? *by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2015* I purchased this book for my mother. I have not read the book yet, but felt the authors statement that no where in the book does it refer to being for dementia patients was wonderful, because I don't want it to be a reminder. I just wanted her to possibly enjoy reading again. I purchased the kindle version. Unfortunately, on every page it says The Sandy Shoreline: Books for Dementia Patients. A constant reminder of what I am trying to get away from. This is not even the title of the book, Amazon, is there a way you can address this and allow an option to only show the actual title??? Or refund my money, unfair to the author, because it prevents my mother hopefully enjoy it. I would like to update my review after Amazon addresses the problem Thank you. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Choice *by C***3 on Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019* Used this to read to an alzheimer's patient at a nursing home. She is fairly advanced. It took about a half hour to read out-loud with some talk and a little distraction along the way. It seemed to keep her attention and focus on the book. She looked at the pictures, commented on the crab photo and sunset photo, and told me she likes sunrises. The few pictures repeat on multiple pages and it seemed to be helpful that we were seeing each picture more than once. It is not a "story" or "plot" in the traditional sense of each page building on another. It is words making images describing a person walking along a beach so the recipient only needs to remember what they are hearing at the moment, and not what came before, to understand the various things described on the beach (bird, crab, etc). I printed a pre-school level free downloadable coloring page of fish and brought it along to go with the book. She picked out a few crayon colors for us to fill in the fish after we read about the beach. I appreciate the book does not say dementia or alzheimer's anywhere. That shows consideration and understanding by the author/publisher. It looks like a regular book and has large print. The labeling is important and a main reason I think this is a good purchase option.
