desertcart.com: Vera: Set 9 [DVD] : Various: Movies & TV Review: Vera is a great show - I just cannot get enough of Vera. Brenda Blethyn is fantastic in the role of Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope of the fictional 'Northumberland & City Police'. I enjoy watching her "connect the dots" and solve the crimes with the help of her bureau's personnel, interesting characters in heir own right! She is assisted by her Detective Sergeants (DS) Joe Ashworth in series 1-4 (played by David Leon) and Aiden Healy (played by Kenny Doughty from series 5 on.) The scenery is beautiful - shots of the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the wide open landscapes of northeast England. I just can't say enough about how much I enjoy Vera and always look forward to a new series being released. Review: Interesting series. - This mystery series is edgy and interesting. I have purchased 10 DVD’s in this series. They have all been very enjoyable to watch. All have been in good condition.

A good story line and lots of British scenery
Love Love Love Vera...she is unkept, kind of sloppy, eats things she is not supppose to eat on doctor’s orders, drives an old jalopy, can be blunt, narcissistic and drinks a bit too much...but boy! She has a mind that is a sharp as a tack and is fun to watch in action as she solves heinous crimes with a very understanding team. If you like British television this is the one for you. If you decide, begin with Set 1. It gives a lot of info on her character. I can’t wait for more Veras.

One of the best Brit police procedurals made
The characters in the entire series are deep and ever evolving. The plots are well thought out and keep you guessing who-dun-it. Highly recommend.

David Leon is sadly missed---STILL
Leon's replacement has had five seasons to get better, but there is no improvement. The chemistry between Leon and Blethyn was great, the character had family dynamics that were interesting and funny. Doughty has no chemistry, is not interesting at all. They'd do better to give her a dog as a sidekick, it would show more talent.

Worth watching. Gets better the more you get into characters.
Originally didn't like this series. After watching the first season I realized the cast of characters were quite entertaining! Vera herself is quite funny in a low key sense.

This gritty BBC detective series is first class. Shambolic policewoman Vera drives around in a battered old Landrover, with a battered old hat, in a ratty Macintosh, solving the crimes that occur in battered old England. Grand entertainment.

If you already LOVE Vera like I do, then this is one more series for the books! This series could go on forever, and it wouldn't be enough for this fan! Brenda Blethyn is a gem, and her sidekicks ain't bad either! She's funniest when she's trying to be serious & solving another whodunnit!

She is always a great actress and story lines are good. Well done!!

Vera is an outstanding series about fictional policing in the Newcastle area in England. I like Vera as she is down to earth and the writers/directors film the show as if you are there. Looking forward to the next seasons.

If you like British murder mysteries, then Vera would be fun for you! there are lots of details to add up to uncover the culprit. Her team of detectives are very talented. You can watch them many times, as the Newcastle countryside makes a scenic backdrop.
