Not a book for beginners. At all.
Although the book is a good book for *intermediate* speakers, the title indicates it as being for *beginners* and intermediate speakers. Yet in the FIRST CHAPTER has sentences like a Korean version of “I don't have much time before work, but I need to start my morning with stew to spend the day in a healthy way.” (Use Google Translate to see the ~sentence in Korean - since Amazon won’t allow mixed languages). The sentence involves idiom, complex clause structure and multiple particles not generally taught until intermediate or later. (In contrast the series of books Easy Korean Reading does a much better job of starting simply and building.)

Decent Korean Reader, if they fix one thing....
I got this when it was posted as a free book on Reddit, so thanks to whoever lower the price and then advertised there. I think this is a decent example of a beginner/intermediate level reader for a language that's popular but does have a lot of material available. It has 8 chapters which make up the story of a young Korean man as he progresses through life. You encounter a lot of regular words, and regular grammar. My Korean is strong enough that it wasn't too hard to read, but I still ran into new words, which is what I would want from a book like this. One of the negatives about this title is that it clearly wasn't proofread by someone who was actually fluent in the language. Unlike most Asian languages, Korean actually uses spaces to break up words in a sentence, and this book doesn't have any spaces. It's a bit of a struggle to read. I've looked at the Spanish book in this series, and it's clear they have one text that they translate into various languages. I'm not sure how they got a translation into Korean that reads somewhat naturally, at least to my less than fluent eyes, and not have correct spacing.

Not what I’m interested in...
Sports, dating, everyday life.It might be great for someone who wants practical vocabulary and stories. It just wasn’t for me. So I took off one star.

Great Book to Aid Your Korean Language Learning
I have read the French version of this book, and I love the concept of this series! I did think it was funny, though, when I read the English translation of the first two short stories in this book and found them to be very similar in setup to the French version! For instance, the first short story in both books is about healthy eating, looking at one person and their dietary habits. The layout of the story is essentially the same in both books. The names of the individuals as well as what they choose to eat are changed to make them culturally appropriate. Very fun.The very brief introductory section before the stories tells you a little about the authors’ thoughts about the language learning process as well as their suggestions about how to use the short stories to further your language learning. I quite enjoyed the brief discussion of extensive vs. intensive learning. I love the idea of extensive learning, that we simply throw ourselves into the language, just reading, listening, and watching without worrying too much about comprehension. Each story section is made up of four parts: the story itself, a vocabulary list, a short quiz, and an English translation. This book is not for the rank beginner. You would need to have knowledge of the Korean symbols and some background in grammar to get the most from this.I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

excellent Korean short stories
As a beginning learner, this book was a bit difficult for me but I was able to glean new words and add to what little I know which makes this book a five star for me. I love Korean and need a lot of help so as a help, this book is awesome.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Response to another review, I like it so far
I just what to comment on E. B. Hansen's review regarding "spaces". The comment was "Unlike most Asian languages, Korean actually uses spaces to break up words in a sentence, and this book doesn't have any spaces."I have just bought it. It does have spaces but I wonder if a reviewer expected MORE spaces in a Korean text. Koreans don't add spaces before a number of particles, copulas, etc, so I don't see any problem with this book.Happy reading!

For beginners and intermediates
I got this book as I'm learning the language on my own and it's been almost a year since I read this book for the first time. The "stories" here are just multiple (8) chapters of an individual's life. Quite slice-of-life, infact. But as a book for language learners, I find myself recommending this to everyone. The book has a "How to use this book" section at the start, which I would say is invaluable to language learners. The book also had a lot of good sentences to mine for my SRS while I also learnt a ton of new vocabulary as a beginner that I'm encountering frequently in other media, a year later. The book had a handful of printing mistakes that I hope gets corrected by the publisher in the future editions.BOTTOMLINE: A much-needed buy for beginners and intermediate learners of the Korean language

Great for learning to read
I've been learning Korean for a while but found it hard to read and was reading it so slow but with this book yiu can just read it over and over and I have become a lot faster at reading Korean. I like that it has am English part to so you can know the story better and has certain words translated too after each story. The spacing between the words is a little small though which makes it hard to tell where each new word starts if your only a beginner but over all a great book

Non per beginner
Il libro in se stesso é strutturato molto bene ma non é per il livello beginner, é ad un livello piú avanzato.
