Solid slightly portable retro gaming machine.
This one is much better than the first version. Very sturdy and just as easy to configure. I think I could give it a 5 if it had a analog stick to go with the d-pad. The d-pad is a little stiff as well. The screen is beautiful and sharp. Sound is loud and this one takes two 18650 batteries. Much longer battery life than the previous gamehat which only took one.Buttons are kind of clicky. I like that. The sd card is easy to access and swap out if necessary. Volume and backlight buttons are easy to access.I'd recommend to anyone looking for a retro slightly portable gaming machine. Not so portable, because its too big to fit in a pocket, but it'll fit in a back pack.

Easy install but look here if you need to map your buttons
As expected this case/ pi hat is pretty cool for the amount of money paid. I wish it came with a joy stick or some more triggers but other than it works as advertised. I will say that if you do purchase this item be prepared to do some research because it doesn't come with any instructions. Luckily I am techy and a Google master. I was able to figure out how to set up the GPIO buttons that are on the pi hat. For your raspberry pi 3 you will have to edit this file called recalbox.conf which is in your SD card. Then find the line that says controllers.gpio.enabled=0 and change 0 to 1 then reboot it and go to recalbox controller settings and map the button layout. After I did this it worked perfect.

Your friends will think your cool!
Cons: It's rather large and chunky. It does seem to drain the batteries over a few weeks even when turned off. Buttons are kind of clunky.Pros: Simple to assemble and works like a dream. Can run for over 4 hours on a good set of batteries. The screen is super clear and the colors are brilliant! The classic design makes it feel natural for just about any game!

How do I hook up the buttons?
I really love this item. I just can not figure out how to allow the games to be played not thru a USB remote. It did not register when I turned it on the first time and it asked me to press a. It does not read the regular Gameboy type buttons only the USB remotes. Can someone help me with this?

Great design & simple to construct
The case is sturdy and well made. The boards inside the case make connecting the hardware very simple. A complete novice could easily put it together. I found the case a little big and "boxy", but it was all to fit the 4.3" inch screen. The screen is larger than most handhelds and the resolution is nice and smooth. I think the larger screen is my favorite feature. The extra hotkey is convenient and works well with RetroPie. I think the price point is a bit high for your casual gamer, but if you're a maker and looking for an easy project, I think this case is worth every penny.

Nice for a diy project
Easy to put together and it worked great just a little too big. If you have small hands you might have a bit of a problem holding it.

Easy
Want my retropie portable and this does the trick. I'm a big guy at 6' 3" 270 so I have no problem using this, lots of complaints about the size but I have no problem reliving my childhood
