product ismade well and will help keep bigger dirt,grass,leaf particles from getting into your filter. i bought this as an added preventive but really dont need it. i gave up on the paper filters and us K&N E-4963 Industrial High Performance Replacement Air Filter. youonly need to buy once and to clean you just wash it out let it dry annd reinstall. filters better than the paper ones and weighing the cost of continually buying them verses the one time price of the K&N E-4963 you cant go wrong. you can check it out on their site http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=E-496

May seem like a belt and suspenders
May seem like a belt and suspenders, but these pre-filters really extend the main filter's life. For the few minutes it takes, I often pull it every 20 hours of operating and clean it. We are dry this year and there is a lot of dust while cutting.

Kohler Pre-cleaner
I shopped locally for this pre-cleaner but the prices were too high and no one had it in stock. Rather than wait for 7-10 days, I decided to buy it on Amazon using Prime... I paid half what I would have paid locally and got it in two days with free shipping! What a great deal for a genuine Kohler product!
