Earth: Portrait of a Planet (Fifth Edition)

This book is well-organized and very clearly and interestingly written. I am a senior citizen taking a geology class, and this book presents the material in a manner that sustains my interest and explains the fundamental concepts and ideas very well. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of our planet.

Really good to understanding an introduction to geology for my Dynamic Earth class. The questions on the back of each chapter helps understand what are the important points of a particular chapter. Text wise, it is very descriptive to the point that I understand very complex material I have not encounter before in consideration of Earth dynamics. Detailed images are also key to explaining complex material, but there was one diagram (pg.99 Figure 4.13 (b) ) that was little bit off as pointed by my professor. However this does not deter my appreciation of the textbook helping understand and pass my Dynamic Earth class, would recommend it to any one taking any introduction to geology course.

Good book

This is without a doubt one of the best textbooks on geology I have ever seen. Primarily aimed at the undergraduate level, the text is so straightforward to read and the diagrams and illustrations are excellent - one good picture says a thousand words. If you are studying geology or have a passive interest in geology, or merely want to remind yourself, this book is a must.

Great book for many reasons. Lovely vibrant photos, great text which explains thoroughly while still remaining a fluent read, short questions throughout the chapters to make sure you've understood what you've just read and questions at the end of each chapter.

I'm studying on this book for my geology exam in a master in Natural Sciences. I'm reading more than I would need for the exam, that's how good it's written. Stunning graphics and pictures, detailed explanation with interesting stories, I highly recommend it.
