The Stratford tile is a decorative tile, and is not well suited to reduce sound or noises on it's own. Though it does have some ability to reduce noise, it's only about half that of a standard drop ceiling tile, so it will not be a good choice on it's own, when noise is an existing problem. The Stratford tiles can only be installed in a suspended T-bar drop ceiling grid. They cannot be glued up over the top of existing ceiling tiles. Highly recommend!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product. A few things to know... *by N***S on May 13, 2021* I was worried after reading the reviews but I didn’t have any problems. Since these are so lightweight I just put them WITH my old ceiling tiles. The weight of the old tiles keeps these from jumping or shifting when the door slams. All mine came in perfect condition. To cut them I used a very sharp box cutter and didn’t have any problems. We have a ceiling air vent in one of our tiles. These are not sturdy enough for that so, again, I just left the old sturdy tile and put a new one with a cutout for the vent.
