Over the last 15 years of boating, I have bought a pile of flares that then expire. Like most of you, I have a pile of them because they are probably still good, so we hold on to them. You can carry expired ones, but you have to have current ones to be in compliance.I think I paid about $75 for this flare replacement. About the cost of two sets of flares and it doesn't expire. I keep it in my boat bag along with extra batteries in a ziplock. I'm just sorry I had to buy flares for 15 years before learning about this.

The product arrived well-packaged with batteries included. I tested it—WOW! The first flash was intense, and I saw spots for minutes.As with any battery device, don’t store it with batteries installed to avoid leakage. Use quality name-brand alkalines.I like that it replaces traditional flares—no fire hazard if you're offshore.

Signal is bright and can be seen for miles. Required on boats longer than 16'. Much cheaper than flares and safer. Flares only good for 42 months but this signal never needs replacing. Kit also comes with distress flag and whistle.

As advertised, the light is easy to use. It was not entirely clear from the description, but it also came with the distress flag that is necessary for emergency situations. Although seemingly a bit pricey, this is a high-quality product.

Good value and easy to use. A must have safety device that functions well. Gives an SOS flashing signal and can be seen from a great distance.

Happy to ditch the traditional flares for this. No more buying them every three years just because they “expired“ or worrying about deploying them wrong and starting a fire on board or something like that.Assembly and use of this is extraordinarily simple, just threading the cap on and off functions as the switch as well.
