Offers a training system for running a 5K or 10K race, provides a checklist to prepare for race day, and discusses staying motivated, nutrition, and aches and pains. Review: This is a great book! As an avid 5K runner (but certainly not high level or anything like that), this book offers up lots of great suggestions for both novice and experienced/veteran runners. It is a high quality book with tons of different programs and pace charts. Chapters discuss topics such as: health information, equipment, the run-walk-run method (which, it should be noted, is the hallmark of his method), using the Magic Mile to help estimate the appropriate race pace, programs "to finish" and programs for time goals, drills, speed training, race day timetables, running from, incorporating walking, using running to reduce body fat, nutrition information, and cross-training. I would recommend this book more for someone getting into running but a super experienced runner would probably not get much out of it. Review: great for beginner! - I tried running in college. Hated it. Two knee surgeries later, I never dreamed I would actually want to run. Jeff Galloway is a running genius. His short stride shuffle run is exactly what I needed. My knees are pain free for the first time in 20+ years. And I'm running!!

Pass on the kindle version....
For me, the kindle version was somewhat defective. Headings for injuries did not show up but the recommendations did - I had to guess which set of recommendations went with what unidentified injury. It also had other formatting issues. I went ahead and ordered a used hard copy to get the information I couldn't extract on the kindle version. The book itself is alright with some good tips. It had a lot of sales pitches for products in it, which I didn't like. One or two would have been fine, but not the numerous plugs that kept showing up. There were some good basic running tips and the running schedule. The approach makes sense. That is the reason I ordered the hard copy. On my kindle, it was very difficult to follow.

Big Galloway fan
As a 40-year-old plus runner, I find his information extremely relevant. I've learned to love running late in life, and I want to keep loving it. He's advice makes me believe I can do that.

Probably the best of the short distance books I read
I read a lot of different books on running when I first started up. This one was the first and probably the best of them. Galloway does a good job delivering the information and I got a lot out of this

Very Helpful
Really helpful book. Was trying to follows Coach Jeff plan on Garmin and wasn't understanding walk run intervals etc. This book clarified that and more. Easy to follow and well laid out with lots of options for the distances it covers. Recommended.
