Fluval G3 Fine Pre-Filter Cartridge

This filter works well. I have it in for two to three weeks before I need to take it out to clean it. Some have said it clogs in a couple of days. It might if your tank is super dirty, because it is a fine particle filter used for water polishing. My tank is fairly clean so it will go the distance. I would buy it again when the one I have no longer can be cleaned and that has not happened yet after 2 years of using it.

This is a very good cartridge and it polishes my tank water very well. I have a 40 gallon reef tank with a 10 gal sump. Because of the g3 filter capacity I would only recommend the G3 or G6 on small tanks. I use this filter to increase mechanical filtration on my system and to act as a substitute media reactor with the tri-ex cartridge. I saw a difference water quality and some of my LPS corals opened up when before the polyps weren't opening as often. I do have 2 felt filter socks at the end of my overflow to the sump, but this filter does a great job of doing a final polish. It does clog pretty often (usually 3-4 days) but I do not mind on my reef tank I would rather clean my cartridges more oftento prevent this canister filter from becoming a nitrate factory.Make sure to turn this off when feeding your fish or the food will clog the filter quicker. I keep 2 filters on hand. The white filter and this one. When one clogs, I soak it in bleach water for a day or two and rinse it, then take the scrub brush that came with the g3 to scrub out the remaining junk, give it a final rinse, and it works great!

I have been using this filter for almost three months now and it has worked great. I clean it about every 10 days and my flow stays at 100%.Update after 6 months of use. The filter still works good, but I have to clean it every 5-6 days now to keep 100% flow. It is still not bad though.

I purchased this as a replacement to the original Pre-Filter Cartridge and to experiment with it's affect on water flow in a lightly planted aquarium with 2 bags of Flourite black sand as a substrate. Well after almost a month in use, I haven't had any negative issues with clogging or slower flow rates. I can attest to the fact that this cartridge is far superior than the alternative version. Yes, it handles the pass through well and whenever I disturb the substrate it quickly filters out the haze in less than 2hrs.I'm aware that other reviewers complain about having to frequently change and maintain this filter. If your specific setup is causing this, please put a pre filter over the intake hose to restrict the amount of large debris from accumulating inside this spectacular cartridge. My tank is loaded with almost 30lbs of Seachem Flourite black sand and this Fine Pre-Filter keeps going for at least 10-12 days between water changes. Maybe if I wanted, I could push this baby for 3 weeks and still get superbly polished water!I'm looking forward to seeing if I can keep this cartridge for at least 2 months. The original pre-filter lasted only a few weeks before it's usability diminished. I guess only time will tell for the final results.

The water in my planted tank wasn't as clear as I wanted, so I decided to try this filter in place of the white filter. It did not work well. Flow was reduced within a day, so frequent cleaning was necessary, and the water didn't seem much clearer. I have gone back to the white filter.Ideally, I wanted to run the white filter in the first compartment and this filter in the second, but that configuration is not supported. Filters only fit in the first compartment.

I use this on my g3 fluval canister filter, with a chem filter and biofilter with aio system and a filter sock for good measure. Does great for my saltwater system. Easy to use , cheap and efficient. Must buy

Works great. I had been using other filters that didn't last long and didn't keep the water clear. This has already last 3x longer and 100% better

I have had trouble using the blue filter cartridge with the G3. It seems to suppress the water flow which is not too great for the G3 anyway. It also seems to mess up the callibration for the filter. I had Hagen-Fluval replace the filter twice. Using the white filter is best.

Hallo.Habe den neuen Filter eingebaut und war begeistert von der Filterleistung. Anfangs musste ich ihn alle 5-7 Tage sauber machen. Nach 3 Wochen reicht dies nicht mehr, nun muss er alle 1-2 Tage sauber gemacht werden obwohl er optisch nicht sonderlich dreckig aussieht. Nach der Reinigung ist die Durchflussrate aber wieder normal.

Best filter (G3) on the market by a long way

This product really clear the water of an aquarium.The main problem is that it clogs really rapidly, even if the water is not full of garbages. From my point of view, it has taken only 5 days to reduce the flow to 50%, whereareas it is only starting to clog afeter 20 days with a normal cartridgeFurthermore, it is really difficult to clean to restore to its initial state.If you are have a planted aquarium like me, you might pass tour turn.

Für den Einsatz im Meerwasser ist dieser Filter völligst ungeeignet. Er ist zwar dafür ausgewiesen jedoch ist nach spätestens 24h dieser Filter dicht. Mein MW AQ ist nicht dreckig, spült man den "zu gesetzten" Feinfilter aus, kommt fast gar kein Dreck heraus. Es ist normal, dass meine Baggergrundel den Bodengrund umgräbt. Bei dem bisschen was davon in den Filter gesaugt wird ist dieser ratz fatz zu. Nach ca. 12h hat die Pumpe eine Durchfluss von nur noch 50% und nach 24h ist der Filterdurchfluss gleich null.
