The AMT VS microphone is Applied Microphone Technology's microphone system for violin. Designed, manufactured by hand, and distributed by AMT in the USA. The system is intended to clip onto standard violin. The VS is a ultra miniature, feather weight low profile condenser microphone specially designed for the Violin, Viola, and Mandolin. The microphone attaches to the Violin, Viola, and Mandolin with a clamp designed to be solid on the instrument without harming or dampening the natural sound or vibrations. The VS is the # 1 choice for top professionals that look for the most natural sound reproduction possible from a clip on microphone. All versions of the VS now include updated features including D.C.T. (Disconnect Cable Technology) with the ability to connect the Wi5C creating a belt pack free wireless system. The VSi comes complete with the Inline preamp, case, and AMT disconnecting cable technology to allow the microphone to be used wireless with the AMT Wi5C, Shure or Sabine Wireless. Phantom power required. Sennheiser cable sold separately. Mic (XLR) cable required.

Great sound and options without modifying your instrument.
This mic is easy to install and move from one instrument to another with no modification to the instruments. We find it is easiest to install the mic on the upper bout of the instrument with the mic pointing toward the player. This keeps it out of the way for all the various things one does when playing violin, including installing/removing a mute and doing chicara (tango bowing technique where bowing takes place between the bridge and tailpiece.) FANTASTIC performance when used with the AMT wireless system but you do need to learn how the wireless systems work, allocate some time for that or you'll be frustrated. The newer AMT wireless transmitter is very light and snaps right onto this mics' mounting bracket: no wires required to a belt-pack transmitter (many female violinists don't wear belts when performing anyway) or transmitter to the shoulder rest, which invariable falls off more often due to the added weight. The system is truly adapted for a performer who isn't always chair-bound. The the new AMT wireless transmitter has a 1/8" input that will accept the feed from a pickup so the pickup can be blended with the mic. This is a common technique that yields all the benefits of using a mic (natural sound without any downstream signal processing or EQ) and a pickup (resistance to feedback). I don't believe there's a better system on the market: this one is specifically designed for violin (not adapted from something else) and the advantages are obvious and relevant.
