Samsung 64GB BAR (METAL) USB 3.0 Flash Drive (MUF-64BA/AM)

this drive is honestly great and i have been using it constantly with zero issues. the metal build feels way more durable than those flimsy plastic drives that snap if you look at them wrong, and it does not get hot even after transferring files for a while. usb 3.0 speeds are noticeably faster than my older drives and it makes moving big files around way less painful. the little loop at the end is perfect for attaching to your keychain so you always have it on you. really solid product for the price.

It's big project deadline time, and you're trying to transfer large files back and forth; you can't be stuck with USB 2.0 speeds (a decade old technology), you need a fast flash drive. This is the USB 3.0 flash drive you're looking for. There are so many different designs for flash/thumb drives out there; there's something for everyone. I wanted something that looked solid and simple, was reliable, and fast. This was it. Here's why: • The one piece body feels solid, but lightweight, and looks gorgeous • There is no cap to lose, and the USB end is sturdy enough to stand up to heavy use • The little hole can be used to attach to a key ring if necessary *** NOTE *** Please be aware that this drive is capable of USB 3.0 transfer speeds of "up to 130MB/s". You will only get this speed if the computer you are attaching it to also has USB 3.0, otherwise it is backwards-compatible and will reduce to USB 2.0 speeds. You can tell if it's USB 3.0 if the inside port is a blue plastic, or if the port is labelled "SS" (SuperSpeed). The design looks like it could've been built by aliens [see photos]. It's so simple, yet just works. It's solidly-built, with no small pieces to lose, and big and shiny enough to be visible, and is blazingly fast. Recommended.

To begin with, the Samsung 32 GB Flash Drive is an affordable and effective choice for anyone in the market for a flash drive. I rated this product 5 stars as I haven't had any issues with it and the performance has exceeded my expectations. Samsung has made a high quality product with a low price tag. This usb has an abundance of features convenient for any user. The first being portability; this device easily attaches to any key ring, which is handy because you will never have to worry about not having the flash drive with you. This can prepare you for unforeseen situations when you need to have a storage device. The second is storage space and data transfer speed. With 32 GB of storage you can easily store all your personal files on this drive and do so quickly with a 150 MB/s transfer rate. The downside to this is if you want to keep program files. 32 GB will not be a sufficient size for this and I would recommend the 128 GB version. The third aspect of this device is the durability. If you constantly have this product on you it will be subject to everyday hazards. This includes temperature variances, weather, and dropping the device. Any one of these can ruin a piece of technology and cause one to lose all of their information. I have subjected this product to a variety of elements and never had any issues with it. Lastly, the best part of this product is the price at $13.99. This is a cheap price that is marketable for everyone. Solid State devices will cost 10x this price tag and physical external hard drives carry a higher risk with the potential to lose data if mishandled. Finally, this product has met every one of my expectations and I will continue to utilize it in variety of ways. I hope my review is helpful in your decision making process.

Update Several Months Later: I now have four of these little metal guys plugged into a four port USB 3.0 hub. Tonight I noticed some RF interference when copying data from these drives over to drives on a separate USB 2.0 hub. Will have to investigate this later to try and see where the RF is coming from (drive1, Hub 1, cables, PC, Hub 2, cables, drive2, etc) and if I can do anything about it. Just purchased a fifth one of these Metals (fingers crossed) and to be open for future expansion also ordered another four port USB 3.0 hub. Looks like I will space them out and have three on one hub and two on the other. Heat issues: Yes, I have noticed that these do get "warm" but nowhere near the Finger-Crispin-Good temps that come from the Sandisk USB3 drives. I have a possible suggestion to help "beat the heat" - I have purchased several six inch USB 3.0 cables which I have plugged into the Hub, and this does appear to add a little distance between the port/hub and the device in the hopes that it lowers the temp some. This technique works wonders with the Finger-Crispin Sandisk drives, so I would think it should help a little with the Samsung models. Usage: I tend to use these as Lazy Backups for my hard disk... Actual data is on the hard disk with a copy hanging out on one the Metals. One of the existing four contains some audio files and recordings whilst the others just hold generic data files. I am still nervous when it comes to 128 gig drives as my past history hasn't been good. The 1st Samsung Metal took over the audio files from a Lexar S45 drive after it started to "skip" during playback after a few days of use. The Lexar S37 was kind enough to not waste my time and just froze the whole system within hours of installation, so GoodBye S37! Aside from trying to crisp my fingers when I wasn't careful, have had one Sandisk 128 start to give disk errors (from the heat if nothing else) so in the main 128 gigs have been "odd". But when it comes to the Samsung Metals - several months have gone by and So Far So Good (fingers crossed). Soon I plan to be mounting multiple ISO files on one of these Metals and will see how well it performs over time. Older Review: Have had some crispy fingers with the tiny Sandisk 128s, and had to send one back to Sandisk after it started giving errors. Had a Lexar twirly-case 128 freeze three PCs in "Windows Explorer" from the day I first plugged it in (back to Amazon). Had a Lexar tiny-size 128 stutter on playback of audio files (back to Amazon). Not sure what is up with the 128s.. bad luck, bad karma, tech is still too new, but best to have backups of these things for safety's sake. But have had good luck (...so far) with the white Samsung tiny-size 128, so figured I'd try this "metal" 128 gig as it's also from Samsung. So far so good, so bought a second "metal" one. Now that I have three working (...so far) USB3 128s, also bought a USB3 hub from Amazon to plug them all into. A Happy Samsung Family! The "metal" drive isn't as tall as standard USB drives, which makes the hub stand out less. ...My three Sandisk 128s will be designated as "backup" drives and live in a drawer. (also great if the heat fails in the winter!) One thing I do wonder about is whether or not being "metal" on the surface might lead to issues with Static Electricity to the USB ports in the less-humid winter months, but will make use of my grounding strap first if I need to touch 'em in the future.. Re-reading the specs, this drive appears to be "shock proof", but that might not be of much good if a static charge fries the USB3 port. Best to be safe rather than sorry when it comes to ESD.

Needed several USB drives for my teenagers to use at school this year, so was looking for ones that I thought could hold up to being used and abused by them. That pretty much immediately disqualified any flash drive with either a cap or a swivel cover, or one with the USB connector either retractable or protruding. Been through those, busted all of them. After searching for something that did not have any of those limiting factors, I found this Samsung BAR drive, and so far have no real regrets. Build quality, at least for the Metallic version, is excellent, with the entire drive case being made of a solid unibody metal rather than plastic, and with no protruding connectors, caps, or swivels. Having read several other reviews stating that the drive has continued to function after going through the wash is also a plus, as I wouldn't put it past one of my boys to do that eventually. This thing looks and feels like it could easily handle that. In terms of the design, the key ring loop does make it a bit easier to insert and remove the drive from a USB port if not actually on a key ring, but is somewhat awkward to plug into tight areas otherwise. Also, if kept on a key ring, the drive only hangs flat next to your keys on one side of the ring. If it's on the wrong side, it sticks straight out from the rest of your keys, forcing you to move it to the other side of the ring before sticking it in your pocket. Other than those minor complaints, the drive is solid, durable, and will hopefully hold up to whatever abuse my teens can dish out. Read/write speeds are typical for a good USB 3.0 drive. I did notice that one of the drives got very hot when transferring several large files at once, which is the reason I took a star off. Should there be an issue due to overheating as time goes on, I'll update this review. Otherwise, this looks to be an excellent choice for a drive that can keep up with my teenagers.

The metal case acts as a heat sink to keep the drive cool. Additionally it seems well built and is aesthetically pleasing (subject to one's tastes of course). Memory throughput testing on Ubuntu 16.04's disk benchmarking was interesting to say the least... I managed around 100+ Mb/s write speeds, but only around 15 Mb/s read speeds with the W95 FAT32 file system that it came formatted with. Yes, I know, VERY ODD. I can't use the FAT32 as some files are over 4 Gb in size. And every 4 Gb or so the speed dropped off sharply, then shot back up to high speed. (Perhaps the drive likes small file write bursting?) Next I formatted with the EXT4 FS, and it yielded more real world results of around 20-30 Mb/s writes and 50 Mb/s reads (still very slow on the reads). Finally I formatted with NTFS and it yielded 20-50 Mb/s writes, and around 100 Mb/s reads. Once you exceed the 50% mark on the read/write tests, the write speeds do drop, but not significantly. This drive is on par with the read/writes of the Sandisk 128 GB USB 3 Ultra Fit series, perhaps even a little quicker, and after approximately 30 minutes of non-stop writes/reads, it feels cooler to the touch as well. Overall I have no complaints and have no reservations in recommending this drive as a 'best bang for the buck' drive.

Very happy that I purchased this Flash Drive. I was able to transfer all my files within a matter of minutes. I needed a usb drive to keep all my Amazon Reviews documents in one place and be able to continue to save each new review that I write. I like to write all my reviews in a Word file so that I can work on them throughout the week and then either post them daily or all at once, depending on how many I write. I was starting to bog down my memory and my laptop was not performing like it should. My husband recommend I purchased an eternal drive so that I can keep all my files in one place so that I would not have any issues with my memory. Really glad I took his advice and purchased this item. And thanks to all the great reviews that helped me pick the right one for my needs. This flash drive is rather stylish with how it is designed and the nice silver finish. I like how I can keep this on a beaded chain so I don’t have to worry about losing it or even a key ring that could be placed on my key chain for easy travel. I find that both function and design are perfect for my needs along with how much data storage it can hold. It is also perfect for storing pictures and music. This is an item I would recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing this item.

Compré la memoria en reemplazo a una Kingston DT100G3 de 32GB la cual también es USB 3.0 y quedo satisfecho con la compra. Esta memoria de Samsung tiene buen tamaño es más pequeña de lo que pensé pero no tanto como para que sea dificil de retirar de un puerto 3.0 que como sabrán son mas duros de poner y quitar memorias. En tanto al rendimiento fue mucho mejor les dejo una imagen de la comparativa de velocidad donde esta memoria Samsung alcanzo un máximo muy superior. La memoria que viene como unidad "G" es la Kingston y la "H" la Samsung. Lo único que no me gusto es que la memoria se calienta, en el resto de memorias que he tenido no se han calentado, solo he notado que las de carcasa metálica se calientan y debe ser la razón por la cual son de metal para que sirva de disipador.

This is a fantastic little USB for keeping on your keychain. I got the metallic 128GB variant and it's very sturdy and premium feeling even though it's much much smaller than what I expected. Been using it for a month now with no scratches on the surface or the part that goes into the ports. It reads and writes fast but nowhere as fast as advertised.. The write is capped at around 10mb/s to around 45 mb/s and read is around 100 to 160. Not too disappointed as I don't transfer huge files but I use this more for school work and small files like audio files.

This USB is the best one till date that I have used. it has got blazing fast speeds and it is sealed to a whole lot of impacts. The overall design is what I loved and it really makes you admire. even with all the current problems Samsung is having it s really mind-blowing to see them producing such fine quality USB and devices. I would overall suggest the USB to anybody who wants good speed. The only thing I find is that as it is an all-metal body it gets heated very quickly and this prevents us from keeping in our hand for too long after a huge transfer,.
