Great for replacing batteries
If you have battery powered lights for cabinets, stairs or any other item that use three batteries, you can use this charger instead (1.5 volts x3 batteries = this 4.5v charger --it can be AAA, AA, C or D batteries as they are all 1.5 volts each). Remove the batteries. Look at charger to see how the tip has a negative and positive part (inner and outer part of the tip shown as a dot inside an arc that indicates which is negative and which is positive). Cut open the rubber base of the tip to expose the two wires and note which wire goes to the inside of tip and which goes to the outer sheath of the tip so you know which wire is negative and which is positive. Now cut off tip and splice open the ends of the two wires. Run the positive wire to the metal tab for the positive battery side in your light or appliance. The positive side is marked with the + sign. Connect the negative wire to the (-) side for the battery. Be sure to connect to the positive and negative tabs that connect to the appliance and not to the interim connections between batteries. You can solder the wires to the metal tabs or tape them or just shove behind or wrap the wires to the metal tabs. The wires only supply low-voltage electricity (same voltage as the batteries you are replacing), so not a risk. Plug in the charger and your light (or whatever it is) never needs batteries.

Very handy. Used to replace the batteries for my LED lights underneath the monitor stand I built.
This along with the DC receptacle works great. Now I don't have to replace batteries all the time.

I replaced 3 battery packs with this adapter!
My little Christmas tree had one set of plug in lights and THREE sets of battery-powered light sets! It was a real pain to keep looking good because I had to fumble around to turn each battery pack ( 3 AA batteries each) to "on", and also plug it in every time. I cut each battery pack wire harness, and also cut the barrel plug off the new adapter. I identified the positive wires on the adapter AND tree lights, and simply joined all the positive wires and all the negative wires together. ( led lights are fussy- they will only light up if the polarity is correct- you must use a multimeter to identify). Now I can plug the tree into a timer and ALL the tree lights go on and off automatically!

Burned Out
I wanted this plug to convert a 4.5V battery operated item to be plug in so that I could keep it on all the time without having to replace batteries. This item’s description claims that it outputs 4.5 volts (which is what I needed), but either it doesn’t (I didn’t check it with a voltmeter), or it overheats after a couple hours because within the first hour or two of use, this thing got warm, burnt out, and no longer works. The light strand still works with a different power supply, though a few of the LED bulbs are burned out, which is what leads me to believe this thing puts out a different voltage than advertised.
