Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras Review: A cryptic guide to life - This ancient classic is not about yoga as an exercise. It is the foundation of the Yoga philosophy of Hinduism. Yoga is related to the word yoke. One practices Yoga to yoke himself to God. An outline of the 8 steps of Yoga is provided, known as Ashtanga (eight limbs) Yoga or Raja (royal) Yoga. They begin with the 5 Yamas and 5 Niyamas, 10 ethical teachings very similar to the Ten Commandments. The third step is the familiar Asana (pose) Yoga, followed by the fourth step, Pranayama (breath exercise), similar to Qigong. Beyond this, one moves eventually towards concentration, meditation, and enlightenment. Review: A very good book - It is an excellent book on the topic

5-Star Book; 3-Star Editor
About halfway through and Vivekanada is amazing as ever. Patanjali is great! But I have found some glaring grammatical errors and straight up typos which should have been caught by any editor. Perhaps there was an effort to maintain the original commentary - but knowing his other works, I don't think this is the case. I would still highly recommend studying this book!

Vivekananda's Self Realization discourse
Book covers the traditional terms of a yogi becoming Parusa or self realized ie; enlightened . Without some prior knowledge of these terms and states of existence > not much can be gained .

Too wordy
This book is a hard read. So wordy. Not very clear and understandable. Just a jumble of words strung together. I am on the search of a better one for my class because this one is ridiculous

Poorly written ...
and superficial

Swami Vivekanada brought yoga to the west. This IS the book that every person should have in their personal library, if truly interested in learning what yoga is and how how to practice it. Find your SELF. Read the book. Be inspired in your daily life.

Nice book but too small text

The book is good and the content is great .., Vivekanandan’s proficiency in English language is bit difficult to match. Took lot of time to read the book, given the style of writing.
