WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING : Owens, Delia: desertcart.in: Books Review: A Must Read! - From the very first page I was intrigued by this little six year old girl Kya- known to the town folk as Marsh Girl. Her journey begins with a series of heartbreaking abandonments. First her mother walks out, then her siblings and eventually her father too. Left completely alone, Kya learns how to fend for herself, to cooking cleaning and even earning meagre wages selling mussels. She leads a life of solitude yet finds joy in feeding the gulls in her beach, collecting sea shells and mushrooms. She understands the marsh lands like her family. Her resilience, her shyness and indomitable spirit are truly inspiring. Then she meets Tate, a boy who loves the marsh almost as much as she does. He teaches her to read, write opening a new world that she has never known before. The narration flows across two timelines - one following the discovery of a dead body near the marsh and the second tracing Kya's life story. Ms. Owens language is simple yet evocative and the descriptions of each scene painted vividly. My heart ached everytime Kya started to trust and dreamed of a life beyond ber solitude. Every time she broke, she found the strength to start over again. This is a story that will stay with me for a long time. The plot thickens into a courtroom drama. But what truly left me whispering "incredible" was the ending - a subtle revelation that I didn't see coming, yet it left me smiling wide. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this one!. Review: Crawdads, a review - Nice book. But personally I did not like the surprise ending. Too artificial , contrived,- just for the sake of giving a surprise to readers. ( Also, how come, the hero finds a thing in Kya's shack,, which escaped the search of experts like the sheriff ?) So many pieces of poems also not necessary in the story. Compared to Perry Mason stories and of Grisham, the court room scenes are just average.

Absolutely fantastic and beautiful.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I can't stop turning page after page since I started reading this masterpiece. The story of a little marsh girl turning into a marsh legend is sheer brilliance. The author masterfully intertwines the beauty of the natural world with a compelling narrative of survival and self-discovery. The rich descriptions of the marshland create an immersive experience, making it almost a character in its own right. The emotional depth and complexity of the characters, particularly Kya, are portrayed with such sensitivity that it’s hard not to feel deeply connected to their journeys. This book is a poignant exploration of loneliness, resilience, and the profound impact of nature on the human spirit.

A BEAUTIFULLY-WRITTEN NOVEL
Title: Where The Crawdads Sing Author: Delia Owens Genre: Literacy Fiction Pages: 368 "You know you have read the good book when you turn the large page and as if you have lost a friend." This is absolutely true for Where The Crawdads Sing novel by Delia Owens, who has won the John Burroughs Award for Nature Writing. Suspenseful murder mystery, coming-of-age story, and its beautiful evocation of marshland are as remarkable as heroine Kya. The author has so eloquently infused the plot with nature and nature with poetry that one can feel and imagine every line of the novel. For years, Kya, who had been fostered by the nature, spent her life through the eyes of an abandoned child on the marshland of North Carolina. Finding friends in gulls and learning lessons from the marsh, Kya yearned to be loved and cared for. Unfortunately, her love story turned into an unimaginable way that she became the suspect in Chase Andrew's murder in late 1969. The chapters of this novel are set in the suspenseful Chase Andrew's murder and years of Kya's life. Where The Crawdads Sing is an interesting book filled with attractive words as if it were prose or thought-provoking poetry. Though it is a very lucid book, one has to surf the internet to find the names of various species of birds. It is an amazing nature-infused plot and I would recommend it to everyone. I would rate it 5/5⭐️ A BEAUTIFULLY-WRITTEN NOVEL

A beautiful book that'll make you cry
Today morning I sat down to write out my thoughts on 'Where The Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens. And to be frank, the book's marvelous in every way and I want you all to read this book, no doubt. But while reading up on the author I came across an article from The New Yorker, stating that Delia Owens was allegedly involved in a murder of a possible animal poacher in Zambia. The reports are not conclusive about her level of involvement in the incident, but it's evident that the Owen family never came back to Zambia for their criminal investigation after leaving the country to visit America. Apart from this, I really wanna talk about this book. It's one of a kind that'll drive you to tears just with the power of it's words. It was poetically rich and raw with emotions so sharp, that they'll dig into your soul to make you feel the pain behind the pages. The story of Kya, deserves to be read, known and cherished. Where The Crawdads Sing will make you annotate every page, almost! And we bookworms know that a book can be different kinds of heartbreaking, Where The Crawdads Sing gives you the worst kind of empty and stilled heartbreak, that only comes from tragic injustices. This book will cut open your heart will a million strikes. This book has been narrated in two timelines: 1952 & 1969, when Kya was growing up and the year Chase Andrews was found dead, murdered in the marshes. Kya, almost 8, is first abandoned by her Ma. She had seen her Pa, beating her Ma and one day Ma left. Her siblings waited for her return and tried their best to get the household chores done to keep the family fed. But Pa's rage and abusive ways made everyone run away except for our little Kya. Whom nobody took with them, so she remained. She cleaned with her little hands not knowing what to do or how to cook. Kya grew up teaching herself, wandering in the marshes alone and making friends with every creature of nature she could find in that lonesome place. @thebookishlawyer (IG)

The Australian media broadcaster ABC through ABC Radio National, is currently asking readers for their choices for the top 100 Books of the 21st Century. Hundreds if not thousands of votes have already been received and avid readers are sharing their picks on The ABC Book Club facebook page. Having seen countless numbers of readers selecting Wherer the Crawdads Sing, I decided to buy it and am so very, very glad I did. It is beautifully written and a fabulous story about a young girl's unfortunate, dysfunctional family and her strength and perseverance in overcoming immense odds to not only reach adulthood, but become a shining example of never giving up. With a strong emphasis on preserving and appreciating the beautiful harmony of the environment, it gives an insight into the balance required for all lifeforms - humans included - in marsh/swamp/sea environments. The main characters are wonderfully crafted and they come to life throughout the book - which really was a page turner and hard to put down! I am feeling quite bereft since finishing it - it was such a thoroughly enjoyable, engaging book. It will be a very hard act to follow. Am hoping that Delia Owens writes more novels - I am very tempted to read her non-fiction books about her life as a wildlife scientist Can highly recommend it - would love to add it to my list of best 100 books of the 21st century - in fact I reckon I'd place it in the top 20!
