Great weapon for self Defense.
I bought this training karambit after I cut my forearm playing around with a real karambit that I just received the day before. I bought a karambit because the design of the knife make it a very effective weapon for self- defense. However, the design of the weapon requires training to be truly effective in real life situations or you run the risk of hurting yourself more than your attacker. When I first received the training karambit, I thought it was a piece of crap and I started to send it back for a refund. However after playing with it and considering the California law and city ordinances regarding carrying knives and the use of deadly force in self-defense I view this training karambit as a potentially lethal weapon also. I am a trained street fighter that is very capable of doing serious damage without any weapon but this weapon greatly increases my striking capabilities. I have knock out plenty of guys with one punch even though I am only 6 feet and weigh 175lb because I am trained in boxing and I know how throw my punches to create maximum damage to my opponent. However, street fighting your hands are not protected by gloves and I have injured my hands plenty and keep breaking the bone over my pinky finger delivering knock out punches.I really try to avoid hard punches to head and focus my attacks to the body because well places punches to the solar plexus, rib cage, and kidneys will take the fight out of the biggest opponents . For me, this is a great weapon that do not require me to change up my fighting style very much. Because of the solid construction and the ball on the tip and the finger ring would make my punches more focused to a tiny area of the body which would cause great pain and possible serious damage. I cutting my self with a real karambit, I can tell you that one well place strike can kill any attacker although death might not instantaneously. If given the choice, I would rather called serious injury to an attacker rather than killed them so I would carry a real karambit and my training so I can deal with a violent situation in an appropriate manner. Also, with a simply modification like adding a Velcro strap to the handle it can be carried on my belt loop or put in a pocket. But the biggest advantage of carrying around a trainer is that it looks like a toy and I can go around any state law or city ordinances concerning deadly weapons and have an effect means of self-defense. Food for thought. What ever weapon you choose to carry as a weapon for self-defense please invest the time to learn how to use it because your attacker may disarm you and use your own weapon against you. Carrying a weapon does not make you invincible but it can give you chance to win the fight.

A great training aid for those practicing with the Karambit knife. A great bargain.
I have been into the numerous martial and weapon arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Wakizashi-Jutsu, Tanto-Jutsu, Machete, Kenjutsu and other systems) for more than 60 years. One of the blade arts I have recently became fascinated with is the use of the Karambit. I The Karambit is a unique knife and is easily recognized by the hole in the end of the blade handle and the curved blade. This kind of blade is used in many Indonesian and Filipino martial arts. I took a short course in using the Karambit and purchased two training (Blades USA E419-PP Polypropylene 7 inches length) plastic Karambits. I found these two training knives very easy to practice with doing both single and double blade techniques. If you are thinking of taking up the use of the effective and unique blade art you may want to check out these training Karambit, which I purchased on Amazon for a bargain price. Rating: 5 Stars. I love this practice knife
This practice knife is very valuable for training. It fits very well in the hand and the grip is rock solid with those finger grooves. It is actually quite large. Get two of these and practice with a partner. You will immediately feel and see how you can manipulate the direction of your partner's wrist and arm by hooking the arm with the curved blade, when holding in the back hand position. You are able to immediately redirect any attempt on the part of your opponent to grab you or thrust at you with a weapon. Once you catch the arm or wrist you can easily parry the attack, then run the blade up the arm, thrust at the exposed chest, neck and face. This practice knife will make real just how devastating the use of a real karambit might be. You will also soon discover the limitations of a karambit which is reach. You simply do not have the reach one has using a straight blade which can close the gap more quickly than the karambit with a straight thrust. Defensively speaking, the karambit offers many more options for control than the straight blade.

Great little trainer, especially for the price
I bought this trainer close to a year ago now, because I became interested in Kali and the use of the karambit. I wanted something that I could use to practice the things that I learned as I went, and I found this practice knife. I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this little piece of plastic. I thought that since it was so low on price that it would be really crappy. However I was completely wrong. As soon as I pulled it out of the package I could feel that it was very sturdy. The plastic was light but still very strong. The grip was very ergonomic for my hand, and fit very well. However my hands are pretty small, so if you have larger hands then maybe it might be a little small for you. Another great feature they added was the rounded tip. With that tip there was no chance I could hurt my training partner which was a very big bonus to me. The only problem I ever had with this knife, was that the curve of the blade is very steep. Traditional karambits, or ones that you can buy nowadays are usually a little more shallow than this one, so the blade had a very different feel than what I expected. And if you are looking for something to train an every day carry knife with, I don't know if this trainer would be perfect, because it feels different than most blades you'll find. However I think that it is well worth the money, and I would happily buy it again should I ever need too. It's a fun little trainer that puts a unique spin on knife fighting and I have a blast using it.

It's made of a strong plastic. It's too curved. I don't know if I should or should not recommend this product.
