Brother DS-640 Compact Mobile Document Scanner, (Model: DS640) 1.5"x2"x11.9"

I absolutely LOVE this scanner!It's very easy to use, great quality of scans, and compact so I can slip it in my laptop bag and take it with me!Scans are quick and clear/clean!

This is the best sheet-fed scanner I've used. The scanning motor is much faster than my old Epson Workforce ES-50.The installation is not exactly "plug-and-play." They would do well to make a single installation wizard with checkboxes for the additional software.The UI for interacting with the scanner is good. Some parts seem a little constrained and could be made simpler. The Creationi of Workflows I guess is good but I don't need all of that heaft. This is a very efficient scanner as well it should be for the price. I got what I paid for and then a lot more (that I really didn't need).

Great, portable space saving

It works well. Does exactly as it says, the set up is a little convoluted for those of us used to quick and easy, as this is an older model. It wasn't difficult, I just had to rewire my brain back to "the old days" lol.I bought it to work as a compact travel scanner for work, with my ipad for when I write notes and upload paperwork. I know the iPad scans, but it's clunky with the case I have (1st world problems, I know 😮‍💨🙄) anywho, this doesn't work with "mobile" devices so I'm still stuck to a desktop. *sigh*. But I love it so much I don't want to return it! I'll probably just use it at home.FYI the newer model has BT capability and can work with mobile devices, eliminating this issue.

Super compact and light weight. Scan fast. Easy to use. Smoot sleek design and easy to transport. I recommend.

As other's have mentioned, this scanner can result in frequent blue screen events. When it does work, it scans well. I scanned a total of 3 documents, each time, I experienced a blue screen on Windows 11. What happens, is that if you leave it connected after the scan, Windows seems not to like that, and retaliates with the dreaded blue screen. And that's only about a minute or so after you scan something, so if you have another sheet queued up to scan, you'll be out of luck. On the third instance of this, my machine complained badly after the blue screen, and on reboot, went into safe mode, and took a few minutes to boot, when normally it boots in about 20 seconds.Pros:1. Scans well if you can get past the blue screen that frequently happens.2. The resolution can go quite high, but it's finicky and makes you change other settings each time you scan.3. It's fast and impressive4. It's compact, easy to tuck out of the way into a desk drawer5. It would be almost perfect if not for the blue screen issue.Cons:1. Tends to blue screen on Windows 11, as others have mentioned.2. The On/Off button is sensitive and finickyOverall, this device is completely unacceptable, I did not find any fixes or upgraded drivers on the Brother site.I purchased this scanner, but tucked it away, still in it's box for while before using it, so the return window has closed. $100 is not a lot for a scanner, but still, that's a nice chunk of change to loose on a defective item. I intend to contact Brother and request a complete refund, siting the multiple mentions of blue screen events here on Amazon. I'll update this post as that process proceeds.

TLDR: if the full software package from brother doesn't install, it starts and then nothing happens, do this simple trick that worked for me on two different computers.1) log into your Windows account with administrator privileges. Make ANOTHER user account with administrator privileges, call it it temp or whatever (does not need a password but you do you).2) log out of your Windows session, and log into the new temp account.3) install the brother software package for your product (ds-640 or ds-940dw). It should work. Just give it a little bit. When it's done installing and you've verified it works, log out.Log back into your account and verify everything works. You may delete the temporary administrator account. Enjoy.

If you are have crashing issues use their uninstall tool first then reinstall the drivers. Mine crashed twice before that. Now it works perfectly.
